Question for a car audio guru

My friend and I have been debating over how to wire my subs and amp. I have two 10s in a ported box and a 2 channel amp. Now the amp can be either 300wx2 at 2 ohms or 600wx1 at 4 ohms. The woofers can be either 2 ohms or 8 ohms depending on how i wire the dual voice coils. Currently I have it in the 2 channel configuration. He says it will be louder if I switch it to the 1 channel configuration. Will i really see that big of a difference? The woofers are rated 400 RMS and 800 peak. So if I do the 1 channel config then is the first woofer getting a full 600 watts and the second woofer getting less? In the long run will one woofer wear out before the other because of this set up?

Your confusion lies in your thinking the amp delivers equal power @ different ohm loads. This is not the case. What amp are we speaking about?

Based on what your amps output of 300x2 into 2 ohms or 600x1 into 4 ohms, it shouldn't make any difference how your amp is set up. That is, provided, your speakers are wired appropriately. Speakers wired at 2 ohms for a 2 channel set or 4 ohms total for a 1 channel.

you're much better wiring the subs to a mono amp... a lot simpler... find a mono amp that rms about 1000 watts and is stable at 2 ohms... maybe you can use the two channel for speakers? (probably too much power though..)

If you have each woofer wired to 2 ohms, then you can wire them together in series for a 4 ohm load.

Or you have each woofer wired to 8 ohms, then you can wire them together in parallel for a 4 ohm load.

Either way will get you there. Your amp will won't care as long as it sees 4 ohms when it's bridged.

Mason Fresh has a point, you'll have to run one less speaker wire if you bridge your amp. I don't know if that's a big deal or not.

Both good options barnaby if the amp is bridged. Or, wire both subs at 2 ohms and run the amp in stereo left and right. Either of the three ways should run the same safe power.
