question for all you 5-speed owners

my 4runner seems to rev pretty high compare to other manual vehicles i've drove, it i was just wondering what your rpms were in what gear going how fast, cruising on the highway at 80mph in 5th gear im at a lil 0ver 3k rpms that just seems high to me, is this normal, also my engine seems to roar pretty loud just wondering if this is normal

That is about where mine is. It's a little lower since I moved up a size on my tires.

What size tires do you have on?
Some brand tires run small too.
Have you re-geared?

An automatic will be running ~500 rpms lower at the same speed. (this is what I have experienced when traveling with others)

I have the 2.7L and it revs above 3k at 80mph. I find it normal... might be different for the 3.4L though.

Im never up at 80 much in the 4runner, but i know the 4runner is 2600rpm at 70mph, so a little over 3k sounds about right at 80mph. I have a 3.4l V6 5 speed with stock gears with 4.10 gears on 31" tires.

My sister has a saturn vue which is the same way, and my dads TDI jetta is at like 2800rpm at 80mph, so it all sounds about right.

My 3.4 at 80mph runs just over 3000 rmps too. And the engine sounds like it's almost at the point when I need to shift up into 6th (which I can't, obviously). I think you are in the normal range.

ok thanks guys glad to know its the norm, but ya traveling on the highway at 80mph seems like i need another gear like you said, but appreciate the responses, btw i am running 265/75/16's with stock gears

i have a 5 speed 2.7 4 banger and it is right above 3k at 75 to 80 so it is normal

yeah mine is the same, its like they need to be a 6 speed for sure. i burn 1/2 a tank of gas going 80 and 1/4 at 73, 500-600rpm make a huge difference

80 kills the mpg in my 4runner. Its way happier being my trail rig. It only gets pushed to about 65 on the freeway
