question for audiophiles...

lets say i want to run two 4ohm subs, and they're rated at 200 watts rms each. so i would need a 2 ohm stable amp rated at how many watts rms? if the answer is 200 watts rms, does that mean that an amp rated at 200 watts rms in 2 ohm stable mode gives 200 watts to each sub? to me the answer makes more sense if the amp should be rated at 400 watts rms in 2 ohms stable mode. that way it can divide the 400 watts between the two subs, and the two subs can get 200 watts rms each. please correct me because i'm confused .

When you put the subs together you get a total load of 2ohm with a max rms of 400w. So you would want an amp that pushes about 350 - 400 x 1 @ 2 ohm.
