Question for those who have oem or installed oem NAV systems.

I was wondering if they play dvds and if they have preamp and video out? Thanks!

They do NOT play DVD's -- says so right in the Owner's Manual. Don't know about the other questions.

Thanks! I was just wondering why people would go with the OEM for 1700 when they can get one that plays dvd's too for 1500? I mean, I was going to get the OEM one if it played dvds because of all the benefits of having oem like steering controls, etc. But I guess I'm out of luck.

A couple of thought here....

You can modify the factory navigation system to play DVDs if you want. In fact, any navigation system can be modified to do this.

Personally, I have no interest in watching DVDs on my navigation system, so it's not something that I even thought about when choosing a navigation system.

The Toyota/Lexus navigation system is one of the best (if not the best) systems avialable. It is very well integrated with the vehicle and does not look aftermarket, which I really like. Most aftermarket navigation systems have a single-DIN receiver with a flip-out screen. I prefer the look of the stock navigation system over that type of set up.

Plus, as you mentioned, the OEM system works with the steering wheel controls, which was a major factor for me. I hardly ever even touch my radio anymore! I'm always using the steeing wheel buttons instead.

I also like the maintenance functions of the stock navi system. I do all of my own maintenance, and this function makes it impossible to miss maintenance points.
