Question for those with factory heated seats.

I have searched but can not find anything to answer my question.

We recently bought a '11 Venza, and the heated seats in it get very very warm, but then, I get out and get into my 4R and the seats seam to just barley warm up. It's hardly even noticable and if I didn't know that I had turned them on, then I wouldn't even pay any mind to it at all. But, on the Venza, you deffinately know they are on. I use them year round due to my lower back always aching and I've noticed that they don't seem very warm lately.

So, for those of you with the factory heated seats, do they get very warm or is it more of a low temp heat? I am thinking about having them checked when I take it in for the 10K mile service.

Yeah- I was a little disappointed at my seat heaters. I just refer to them as "seat warmers" now, and it makes me feel better.:mad:
 
I agree, they feel more like seat warmers than heaters.

I have considered changing out the elements and trying to keep the factory switches still. I put a set in my F-250 and they would get super hot on high, but they felt great in winter and when you had a sore back.
 
Hmm...maybe mine do have something wrong with them. I can leave them on forever and they never get too hot for me. I barely even feel them. I guess I will mention it to the dealer. I've got an annoying rattle from the rear arm rest anyway where it folds down from the seat. The screw keeps coming loose and needs to be tightened. I guess I will take it in for both now.
 
The 4th Gens are the same way, the seat heaters barely get warm at all. Especially compared to the ones they put in Chevy trucks. I know 2 people who have them, and each one will get so hot you actually have to turn them down after awhile.

But on my 4Runner, I don't think I've ever turned them off because you really don't noticed it and just forget they are on.
 
+4 ... wife has hers cranked all the way up though.. but she's always complaining she's cold... mine never goes past half way.

Mine seem pretty hot, in fact, I can't even keep it turned all the way up.

Just my 2 cents..
 
Mine are definitely warm. I'd rather not have them too hot like the chevy's. The ones in domestic vehicles always burn up. I've personally had to replace a dozen or so sets in chevy trucks and ford expeditions.
 
I may be wrong but I though the seat warmers in the Limited allow for a variable heat control, whereas the SR5 option package ones are just a hi or lo setting. If somebody could confirm that it may be the reason why the Limited owners above are having no problems and the SR5 owners are less satisfied - or perhaps its just too small a sample size to tell.
 
Mine get hot enough but admittedly not as hot as some I've had in the past in other vehicles. I just changed out my leather seat covers for cloth(too damn hot down here for black leather)a couple of weeks ago and saw them first hand.

This is what the factory seat heaters/warmers look like. I didn't do a write up but did take some pics.They are resistance wires woven into a felt liner with the controller in the back.

Now if I can just memorize the pattern, and put one butt cheek here, the other there...

I must have been asleep and let this thread creep on down the page.

That is a much more extensive design and coverage than the after market sets that I have installed. Mine do not get that warm, but from the pics, they appear to be much, much nicer than any set you could install. I never imagined the coverage being that complete.

I'm starting to think maybe they don't get as warm as others due to the leather being thicker than others. The leather in my 4R seems much thicker than the leather in our Venza. It's not as soft either, but then again, it's a truck, which is why I bought it in the first place over something like the Highlander.
