question for you gun owners

I have a Browning BPS 20ga pump loaded under my bed at all times. My dad keeps a Sig Sauer Model 226 loaded with safety slugs in his nightstand. The way I see it is when I hear someone come in, and I cycle a round into the chamber of my shotgun...any criminal with half a brain will get the hell out without thinking twice.
IMO don't buy a pistol for home protection. Buy a Mossberg defender/persuader or something similar with a real sloppy action so it makes a lot of noise when you cycle a round into the chamber. There is nothing, absolutely nothing more intimidating to a criminal than the sound of a a pump shotgun being cycled. :bigok:

Being in law enforcement, I would definitly say a shooting and safety course is necessary before you buy a gun. Also, any gun safe should be bolted to the floor under your bed so you have quick access to it. I have 2, one under my bed and one on the side of the closet bolted to the studs so I can put my duty weapon away as soon as I get home. I would definitly rec night sights of some sort as they will help you get your sight picture and sight alignment if needed in the dark. I use a Glock 26 (9mm) for off-duty and home protection, and my duty weapon is a Glock 23 (.40). I HIGHLY rec'd the 26.
One of the best things you can do, if you are married or have a GF, is to teach them how to break down your gun, check to make sure it is clear, and how to shoot it. It is sad to say, but my wife is as good if not better then me at shooting!

If you buy a handgun, then i would recommend this small gun vault: Gunvault GV2000 Deluxe. I really like mine. I would get the Deluxe version so that it runs off AC power (with battery backup and code memorization). You can buy one off the net or ebay for around $125-140. Unlike my previous cheap safe (from Academy), this one is reliable.

The problem is if you have never done night firing exercises you will probably not hit your target using these night sights. Night firing requires some getting used to, as the human eye is pretty poor for low light situations. I have a surefire flashlight that can temporarily blind a person and I'm sure this would be more practical then trying to sight in using my night sights, which are really designed for tactical situations. Some people argue that you really need (at most) only the front sight to be lit up at night. Therefore, i only have night sight on the front sight. For me, at night, i only need to aim using my front sight (which is more important than the rear sights)...no need to be super precise at night...just point front sight to target and squeeze the trigger....

and.... bullets WILL go through walls...
If I had my pick, I would go with any Glock that works best for me and any semi-auto shotgun with buck shot.
a really bright light attached on a rail or in your hand along with a weapon is a great surprise too. (keyword surprise)
There is a ton of cool stuff out there, as well as classes...have fun!

Got glock 19 9mm and 626 smith &wesson 357 .357 locked and loaded (in gun safe finger combo safe).No need to worry about clip spring losing tension after years being loaded in my opinion.Granted that clips now days reliable but feel revolver with same age rounds in guns more reliable.Just my 357 cents opinion. Gun safety course and regular practice shooting is a must for safety of every one.Its not like riding a bike where you CANT FORGET HOW TO DO IT.ITS A SERIOUS STEP IN HOME DEFENSE,ONE WITH POSIBLE DEADLY RESULTS ,GOOD OR BAD.

As of today we have had 5 home invasions, the last 2 happened last night/early morning. The police have one in custody. The first time they broke in was a week ago, the punks stole a wedding ring and an engagement ring from 85yrs old widow. Husband passed away last year. The next 2 happend the day after, they hit the old lady right across the street from my house and a house down the block. Today they got another house on my block and one on the next block.
Thank God I'm lucky enough that they are not picking my house, don't want to be put in a situation where I have to defend my property. I will if I have to but would rather go the peacefull way.
Guns are good, I like guns and I always keep them loaded to capacity and ready.
