I am calling on all guys on this forum to ask what you have done as far as body modifications and trimming. I recently did some frame trimming to accomodate my tires and I wanted to post some pics and get some feedback from the pros on here on how long you think it will take before I crumple. Keep in mind that I dont do a ton of offroading but I do like to have the occasional adventure.

this is the driver side....

the cut is only about two inches long and only moves about one inch up from the bottom of the frame. I have been driving on this for about two weeks and have driven offroad and back and forth to atlanta about 3 times(250 miles each time) and there has been no problems yet. In fact it still feels as solid as it did before.

Orient me, where is this place on the frame that you're cutting?? Hopefully, it's not in the area that is a high stress point. Or are you cutting on a crossmember??

If you actually cut on the main frame rail, then frankly, i would have never done it. It's just not wise to go and cut the frame. I would not even let anyone weld or drill on my frame unless it's absolutely necessary. And IMHO, cutting the frame to fit bigger tire is not absolutely necessary.

I would definitely get some rust protection on there.

Looks like it's not on main frame, but on body mounting bracket. I wouldn't touch it either.

I had trouble too at first, but looking more at the pictures and noticing the running boards. I believe the area cut is behind the front wheels where the mud flaps would've attached.

I think cutting frames are a no-no, but you can strengthen it back up by boxing it with some steel cut to fit. And paint it to match and protect from rust. Then you'll have the clearance and it should be as close to the way it was before.

Where you cut it I'm sure you'll be fine.

It's not like you notched it in a high stress area. It looks to me like you just took a few inches off the end for the tires.

I would spray some undercoating on it though to stop it from rusting, and so it isn't as noticeable to a potential buyer if you ever sell.

By the way, how did it feel to take a cut off wheel to your new truck? :awais:

dont worry, no more cutting is in the plans!!!! I was really wondering if anyone else had done this stuff before and had any problems. I am def. going to get some black coating to go under there because its tacky right now....
