Question on defroster

Tonight was the first night I used the defroster. Needless to say I was shocked to see water dripping from underneath the 4R when I parked. Got nervous and started looking around. Saw it was coming from what appeared to be a drain tube, for lack of a better description. Question is, does the evaporator normally run when the defroster is on? I ask becasue it was clearly water that was dripping, condensation?

If you have the front defroster on, it does kick on the A/C compressor. And speaking of my rear defroster hardly works. It just barely defrosts around the defroster grid but thats it. Anyone elses like this?

i think the air only switches to fresh if its on recirculate if you press the front defrost. what year is your 4r?

My 4R is a 2000. It is definetly a drain tube that the water came from. Located on the passenger side in the back corner. It only drips water when the front defroster is on. If I have the it set to floor or dash vents, no water.

Just did a search at yotatech, and found the same info. Compressor kicks on when the defrosters is selected. And there is a lot of moisture in the air here with rain for the last four days. Plus coupled with the fact that for the last 10 years I have been driving a bare bones Ford Ranger that didn't have none of these modern marvels. It had the 2-60 AC, roll the two windows down and do 60mph.
