Question on illumination on Drivers side door controls

I have a 06 Sport. On my driver's side door controls for the windows, mirrors etc. at night only the "auto" button for the driver's side window is lit at night. Not lit are the mirror controls and the window lock button.

I was surprised by this and wanted to see if other folks had the same or is it possible mine need to be checked by the dealer?

I'd have to look to be sure, but that sounds correct. Not everything lights up at night. There's another thread about the fact that the word "Passenger" in "Passenger Airbag" (center of the dash) doesn't light up either.

That's correct, the only thing that lights up is the word "AUTO" on the driver's window switch. Kinda sad that Toyota doesn't have lit switches when most other manufacturers do.

3rd gens are the same way,the AUTO stays lit also while the windows are still active after you remove the key too for 30 seconds.

Yup, only 'Auto' lights up on my '06. Sad that Toyota took a step back with the later 4Runners... I guess that's how you differentiate a Lexus from a Toyota. Our 1990 pickup, both power window switches ('Auto' for one and an elongated oval on the other) and the bump on the master power lock switch lit up. :bash:

They might have stopped lighting up everything because of (1) hard to get at the bulbs to change them, (2) heat generated by the bulb, and/or (3) not really necessary.

For an example of # 2 on the 4th gen, put your finger on the "L-2" indicator by the gear shift about 5 minutes after turning on the headlights. Very warm!! The seat heater switches are the same way.

Honestly, how often do you use the mirror controls and the passenger window controls, especially in the dark? And if you're looking at them, you're not looking at the road! I've found the "braille method" works best!

I know this is an old post, but I still can't believe the driver side is the only one that lights up. For 3rd gen and 4th gen. I wonder if there are any Lexus switches that are a direct drop in that are lit????

I got a 2022 4runner trd premiuim and the buttons to adjust mirrors, the ones to turn on heat etc are not lit. I wonder of the toyota engineers are lazy or knive. This is terrible engineering.. shame on toyota!
