Question on moon roof

Hello everybody. I've been lurking here for a while now and I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a new SR5. I do NOT want a sun roof/moon roof. Is it possible to order one without one? I searched the forum and couldn't find anything. On the toyota website it is listed as 'optional' but couldn't find a way to delete it. Are there savings to be had without one?

Which brings up another question - what is the difference between a moon and sun roof? Why does toyota list it as a 'moon roof'?

No Moonroof and loving it!

I have a brand new 2011 SR5 with the upgrade package and with no moonroof.
I had mine shipped in from 500 miles away (another state).
My dealer did a search and found 135 of them in different states......different colors etc.
Love it!!!

You can order an SR5 like that in theory, as it's listed as an option. There is an options matrix on the Toyota web site. It's possible most are in a "package" meaning if you don't want the moonroof there will be other options you won't be able to order separately.

Technically, a "sunroof" was a sold piece of metal that could be retracted into the roof.

When they made it of glass later on, it became a "moonroof" to differentiate it, since it could let light in without needing to be opened.

Semantics vs. marketing.

A sunroof has no glass and just opens. A moonroof has glass.

Thanks! I have no use for the moon roof - I'll never use it and it cuts into the headroom (i'm kinda tall). Plus it will limit my roof rack and roof tent options in the future. I'm glad 135 other people the same way

the way my dealer explained to me, Moon roof comes with the package that adds the electrical seats as well.
question is would you want to wait for a car like that to show up?
Dealers in my area seemed to think that it is really hard to find a model like that, and it had to be ordered.

I have power leather seats and no moon roof. Then again, I don't have anything else! Just a base model, power leather seats, and tow package.

Oh, and crappy OEM running boards. lol

I'm curious as to how scarce 2011-T4Rs are getting at dealerships, and are they increasing in price. Let us know how long it takes to locate what you want, if you don't mind.

Moonroof huh? Learning something new. I've had sun...hmm moonroofs on my last 6 cars / trucks and love them. Thanks for posting the pics - to my eye it just looks strange without it but I understand why some may want without.

Agree with the other posts - have your dealer do the legwork for you. Mine took about a week to find exactly what I wanted but hey, its my truck and money!

Moon Roof OK

I did not want the Moon Roof, but had to get one for the deal I had going
last year. I really do like the thing, surprised me. Had Sun Roof on a 78 Audi
and hated it, one never knows do one.

Right before I bought my TE, I came close to buying a gray SR5 model. It had a moonroof but did not have power seats.

I'm not sure. What happened was this: I told the dealer that I wanted a 2011 SR-5 with moonroof and that I didn't really care what all else it had. They said they had a base model they had located, we agreed on a price and then 2 days later I came to the dealership to look at it. I drove it and was ready to buy. When I looked at the paperwork, it turned out it was a 2010. At that point they acknowledged their mistake, apologized and offered to take another $1000 off the price but I said no thanks. I then went to another dealer and bought the TE off the lot and now am glad that I have the power seats!
