Question on negotiating a V6 4x4 Sport

Is it fair to negotiate UNDER invoice now that the 09's are close to being out and the 09 pamphlets are at the dealers? I'm looking at some 08 Sport V6's and some of the dealers I'm talking to are shocked to hear I want UNDER invoice and the .9%. Why? I don't know. I know they can't to BOTH the $2500 and the financing, but as far as I'm concerned there are TONS of 08's everywhere and with the 09's showing up soon they would want to get them off the lots. How come Toyota is sooooo scared of selling under invoice?

I bought my 08 GTI last December and it's a 4 door, white which was very sought after and got it for $1100 under invoice no problem. And the newer GTI's actually keep their value pretty good so depreciation isn't the excuse for Toyota. It's not like the V6 and V8 models are selling.

Just give me a v6 4x4 Sport out the door for $32k? Greedy? Please let me know.

Find out the lowest the dealer will let the truck go for, then thank the person and leave. Go to the other competing dealer and ask them the same thing. Then get them bidding on each other- let them know you can it cheaper over at the "other place" and see if they'll beat it.

When you finally get the deal- just say no to $300 undercoating, $600 windshield laminate, scotchguard, etc- it's almost pure profit for them.
 
i did what the OP said, i went to one dealer, got their best price, then went to another. i literally had the other dealer on the cell phone while at the other dealership. they were fighting back and forth to best each other. i got .9% and $2500 off the price (not cash back) or something near there. i also got a pretty smoking deal on my trade. dealers are hurting right now... though the V6 isn't going to get you as good of a deal as a V8 (which no one seems to want)
 
Well they agreed on the deal. Thing is...they have two of the truck I want and NO ONE else in CA has any of that certain truck. One has the double decker and compass mirror, the other one doesn't. Price difference, about $110.

But...the one I want is $35,686 MSRP. Sport V6 4x4 with tow, drl, Sport EVP#1(inc. double decker,mat, net, sunroof, homelink, compass mirror, spoiler), JBL(don't care about)...I'm trying to get them OUT the door at $32K (which includes tax, reg, destination fees, and whatever else they want to charge) and .9% financing. Based on that and my taxes up here in NorCal($2229), reg ($450est), and dest. $745...at invoice it puts them at $34, 170 (give or take). So they are going about $2,170 under invoice or thereabouts on the truck. I like to think I'm getting a good deal.

Or...I should make them sweat since I have two to work from and NO ONE is going to be buying now with the way the economy is and people worried about their $$$$. But I don't think they will go THAT much further.

I live in South Carolina and flew to Laurel, MD to purchase a new V6 4WD Sport with DRL, 6 Disc (not JBL), Tow Package, EVP #1 and Cargo Double decker. The vehicle with the Toyota rebate was $27,328, fees were another $118 and luckily for me, SC state tax is limited to $300 bucks.

Based on the invoice, my 4runner was 4K below invoice (with the rebate included). I guess if they don't offer the rebate in your region, then it is a pretty decent deal. If you want to go to Carmax/Toyota dealership in Kenosha, WI (HAHA!) you can get a pretty good deal or use it as a negotiating tool.

Did you get the .9% financing too? I'm getting that price without the rebate, but with the .9 financing. So I guess I could get $2500 more off, but then I'd be paying the 5.9% of my credit union. But here in CA, it's either $2500 or .9% finance. I just wanted to get both in a sense.
 
I did not get the .9%. I finance for 3yrs at 3.9%, but I honestly expect to pay it off as soon as I sell the 2004 C32 AMG (if anyone is interested, let me know :))

Good luck on getting anything close to both.

ahhh...OK. And as for the C32..AMG's are nice, but I'm a 4 rings (Audi/VW) guy! I like the AWD and lack of power in their engines compared to BMW and MB. But the interiors are the best (IMO of course).

Keep in mind, everything is negotiable. I even talked the finance person down from $900 for the alarm to $500.

Mind me asking which dealer? The 2 4Runners I'm looking at are down in SD...or close to it! :)
 
Also, don't forget to work the survey as blackmail. You know how they keep telling you "please give us all excellent ratings when the survey comes"? I said "sure, how about a gift certificate to the parts dept for me having to wait so long for my truck to be ready?". Shocker: they gave me a gift certificate. :)

Normally I would feel bad, but these guys are sharks.
 
I know you are asking about the Sport trim level, but I am finalizing a deal on an SR5 for $1,000 below invoice, not including the $2,500 incentive.

I had no luck trying to get a reasonable price through my local dealers (one even persisted in lying about invoice). I e-mailed dealerships in cities in neighboring states and found the exact model I was looking for, without any unwanted options.

Even with shipping, I am saving money.

Since you are in CA, I would consider looking in NV and AZ, assuming you can't find a good deal in a different city in CA.

Just my .02! I bought my last car essentially the same way. I'd love to "shop local", but not when the local dealerships can't handle the idea of negotiating on price when supply is high and demand low...
 
Yeah...problem is, there aren't that many Sports in the V6 model even around. And all the dealers I talk to say they can't go under invoice and give me the .9. I think it's kind of BS with the fact that 09's are now available for order and will probably be showing up on lots soon enough.

But the V8 at my local dealer tried to wheel and deal me today...eh, they can keep it. I drove a V6 and V8 and I actually preferred the V6. Seemed lighter and more nimble while the V8 with XReas seemed more "luxurious" and heavy. Soooo, since the dealer that has 2 of the Sports I want I'll just be patient and see what happens. They turned it around and said they could only do $33,7XX with .9 now. :confused:
 
I bought mine at Toyota El Cajon - ask for Lou in internet sales. He was a pretty good guy to deal with. I also had Toyota San Diego down to $3,900 below MSRP with the cheap financing.

Yeah, I think I have them at about $4K below MSRP as the MSRP $35,686 and they want $33,7XX out the door with taxes, fees, Toyota marketing, destination, etc., etc. with the .9. I'm thinking with taxes at a %7.25 rate, reg, all their fees that puts me under invoice about a grand or so. For some reason...I think they can go lower, but maybe not. Maybe I'm just being too damn cheap and my line of thinking is messed up because of the whole 09 thing with them being available for order, so I think they'd want to give GREAT deals on 08's. I don't know.

So far they have been great to deal with tho. I'll give them that.
 
is there something in particular you want in the sport model that's not found in the SR5? the SR5 comes pretty optioned out now, steering wheel controls, remote garage door opener, tow hitch, etc.
 
Yeah...wheels, hood scoop, matching color handles and rear garnish. I was looking at SR5's too, but after seein a sport locally I had to have the sport. And it's a vehicle I plan to keep for a long time so I might as well get EXACTLY what I want.

Are you sure about that? b/c that's what I thought I wanted initially, even rejected an 06 limited w/o nav or suspension for my 07 sport. Now I wanna put leather or any other non staining alternative and upgrade the sound to a JBL (have the base radio, ok but could be better).

So I calculated the cost for everything and it would have been cheaper to buy a limited - except no faux hood scoop
