Question on New 4Runner

I also posted this in the problems/maint. section and have not gotten any traffic so i am posting it here also:hiding:

I am fixing a few things that are not "right". One of the few problems is a buzzing sound that comes from the lower-side/center of the dash on startup.
You don't even have to start the engine, you can just turn the key on and it will start.

It goes for around 10 seconds and stops, it is pretty noticeable. I also discovered that if you switch the vents to the floor, they barley blow out the floor and continue to blow out of the top vents....so may or may not be related to this, but could it be an actuator for the A/C system?

What are your thoughts

10 second buzz sounds like the fuel pump. mine does that too. sometimes.

actuator is the culprit of the a/c jam. good call. may be repairable if not replace it. i havent had to do this on my t4r but someone shoud know where you can find the actuator for the vent door.

what year and model t4r do you have. that would help anyone who may have a diagram.

i know what the fuel pump sounds like,and from what i have read the plastic fuel tank is supposed to take care of most of that sound. but this is actually coming from where the actuator may be lol, behind the radio but below the dash, i haven't gotten dirty in that yet.

Is the actuator gear driven? That is almost what it sounds like, also i noticed it doing it randomly while driving, but i can alway reproduce it by turning the key off and then back on

i think that i have narrowed it down to having to do something with the a/c. It must be an actuator, anyone have any experience opening the lower part of the dash? I havnt even had time to look at it and prob wont until this weekend, any help would be much appreciated!

yes the actuators are gear driven by an electric motor. on most GM's they can be realigned but not sure if thats possible for t4r. If it sounds like small plastic gears stripping its probably a bad actuator. once you find that actuator, unplug it and turn key on. if noise is gone, i'd say thats the problem. usually there only mounted with 1 electric plug and a couple small screw. he main thing is that you get it installed where tho old was removed so its aligned and doesnt strip the new one.

ok here is where the sound is coming from

looks like a pita to get too anyone with any experience under here lol

it looks like a "Servo mode" or an "air outlet servomode" you think that i can service it? or should i check for obstructions first?

What is the best way about getting to and making sure a piece of paper is not just blocking it?

ok, got it fixed, looks like one of the tabs that open and close the vents jumped out of line, so i had to take it off and put it back like it was supposed to be

PITA! but i have all vents now
