Question on painting the Budbuilt plates

Hi, I just received my 4 pieces combo Budbuilt skid plates with bare metal. I have no idea how to paint metal surface but decided to paint it myself. Now I need to decide what I should use to paint. A couple options here:

1. normal painting procedure with washing, sanding, acid based priming and painting (Acrylic latex) seems fairly time consuming. skid plates probably don't need that paint quality?

2. Chassis saver/paint seems ok with direct wash and paint. Any downside of using these?

3. Rust Oleum stuff, POP-15 or rust converter

Any recommendations? Thanks.

I'm not sure what the condition is of these from the factory or how large they are. It may be really cost effective to have them pretreated and powder coated by a small job shop.

If they get no UV exposure then an underbody/underhood epoxy powder coating with a good iron phosphate pretreatment would be the best.

Otherwise POR-15 em and be done.

Thanks for the reply. These plates are just bare steel and there is no rust. I am wondering if I can get away from sanding it.

I feel powder coat is hard to DIY. Iron phosphate(rust converter)+POR-15 sounds like a good option.

I know people in this forum painted BB plates by themselves and would like to know what they used to paint.

Rattle can them if you plan on using them as intended. Easy to touch up when then get scraped up.
I wouldnt waste money on PC if they'll get dragged across rocks anyway.

What He said ... Just Rustoleum Rattle can ..Then you can always touch them up if you need to . Dont Waste too much time or energy or $ trying make stuff look pretty Designed to scrape accross rocks .Etc.
