question on rims!

hey.. im not the offroading type, but than again i wouldnt mind occasionaly being able to go through some rough terrain, which i probably will do once i get my 4runner ( in a month or two )

but im wondering, if i put like 18's or 19's on the 1997 4runner, stock tires, will i still be able to do offroading ( minor ) without worrying about bending a rim?

im lookin at those 20" 'escape' rims ' centerline forged wheel' i saw it in a magazine... but im pretty sure 20's will bend in a second on the stock tires.

I am a little confused , you want to go to a bigger diameter rim, but stay with the stock tires? I am assuming that the stock rims are 15' or 16', the 'stock' tires on them will not fit a larger wheel. As you get into the larger size wheels 18', 19, and 20', the selection for tires becomes limited. Most of them are designed for looks and street traction, not off-road use. I think, IMHO, that you have to first decide what you want to do with the vehicle, and then make your wheel/tire upgrade accordingly. If you are going to spend you time on the pavement, and want some 'bling', then low profile tires and big rims might be the choice. But if you plan to go off-road, they won't be of much use.

no no... i want big rims - 20's maybe, but i dont want to lift my car or add really thick tires, i want the same size tires ( obviously ones that can fit 20's or 19's)

im wondering what size rim i should get to be able to bling on the pavment, and be able to cut corners and occasionally drive on dirt or go over a hill and not worry about bending the rims

Personal opinion, but I've always found the really large rims and thin tire combo to look amazingly bad. ESPECIALLY on trucks. There are a LOT of different wheel choices in 16". Why don't you first look at what's available at that size?

If you are trying to maintain the same overal tire diameter with 20' rims, you have to go with low profile tires. They will have a much smaller sidewall size, and with less tire to absorb the shock, your rim may take the hit for any heavy road or trail impacts. You pretty much can't have it both ways.
