Question on upgrading '04 JBL HU

Hi there,

I just bought a '04 limited with the JBL 10-CD system but want to change it out to an aftermarket unit that will give me MP3/Aux/Bluetooth capability. I understand that I'd have to get the Metra TYTO-01 adapter.

How many minimum pairs of RCA pre-outs does the aftermarket HU need to have as various models I'm considering have either 2 or 3 pairs and some 2 pairs have a sub-out also (I think). Or do I even need the RCA pre-outs at all?

thanks much for your inputs.

to hook up any of the accessories that you are talking about, you won't need any pre-outs. you only need them if you plan on hooking up amps. if you do plan on putting amps in your system, then you would want at least 2, but if you can get a dedicated sub out that is better. try to get an hu with 4 volt (or better) output. that will help keep the signal to noise ratio better and eliminate a lot of hiss.

Actually since he has the JBL setup, he will want a radio with atleast 2 RCA pre-outs.

Technically you could get one without any, get 2 line output converters to put on the speaker outputs of the radio and use that.... but that would be dumb.

The harness you need requires RCA connections on the back of the radio, and most every entry level radio around the $150 range comes with front and rear outputs.
