Question regarding 2005 4 Runner speaker sizes and building a system.

Ive read the 2005 SR5 with stock stere comes with a 6'5" on the rear doors and a 6x9 on the front doors and then 2 tweeters up above the front doors.

Ive also read about multiple people replacing the 6x9 with a 6.5" claiming a replacement 6x9 would not fit well.

Is this true or will most 6x9 speakers be able to replace the stock 6x9s and fit ok?

I am planning on building a whole system starting with eclipse AVN5435 nav and then getting all new component speakers.

I was planning on a 4 channel amp for the door speakers and a 2 channel amp for a sub.

I was thinking of getting polk audio MMC650 for the rear and and alpine component speakers that retail for about $400 for my front doors.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

just did a front speaker install, take out the 6x9's and you have to cut a speaker baffel to fit over the hole. i used the stock speakers to make a template and traced that onto a piece of 3/4" mdf, cut it out then just cut the speaker hole in the center and screwed the mdf in the exsisting holes and your done. do the same thing w/ the tweeters.

Did you HAVE TO take off the whole door panel to replace the speakers? If so, I'm "hoping" that there is a thread on it in here! (I haven't searched yet because I didn't think I'd have to do that.

Also, did you use 3/4" mdf or does that make the baffle too thick?
