Question regarding floormat / gas pedal recall....

Let me say I don't want my gas pedal chopped up.

If I were to bring my 4R to the dealer for other repairs and they see the recall hasn't been done are they "mandated" to perform it regardless of what I want?

It's your choice - sign a release and they won't do it. If you plan to sell in the next year or so you might to get it done since the truck may otherwise show up as not having had recall work done on it and you might not get it done free second time round.

For folks in Canada - I caved and had it done on the above reckoning - they won't take your all weather mats - the ones sold in Canada differ from the US ones and do not present a risk of interference with the gas pedal. There is no noticeable difference in driving for me.

When I was recently at the dealer they did the 90L recall on my 07 and now the treads on my shoes seem to hang up on the bottom edge of the pedal. Call and asked service tech about it and if they were getting other complaints. Said they had not been getting complaits but that there is a replacement pedal available and he ordered it, so will see how that works.

I had my pedal shaved. I haven't noticed the size difference at all. I did notice an decrease in 0-60 time from the weight reduction.

I took a closer look last night at the trim job and discovered that the mechanic had not cleaned up the edge or ease'd it. I took a rasp to the edge to clean up the burrs and ease it a bit and my shoe now moves freely accross it. I will still go for the new pedal when it comes in but the real issue was the workmanship and not the fix as it turned out here.

So who is making these "replacement" pedals? Also, where are they producing them? I don't think I would want one if it came from the same supplier that produced the faulty pedals that caused all the issues in the first place. Even though Toyota has been cleared on that issue. Just sayin'........
