If you purchased a 5th gen, do you wish you would have purchased a different model 5th gen T4R than your current 5th gen (ie. if you bought a TE, in hindsight, would you have rather purchased a limited, or vice versa)? If so why? I'm still trying to decided between the models and figured some owner input would be useful. Thanks!

Had the TE come in white, I'd have had quite the decision on my hands. I love the TE exterior but since I'm not a serious offroader, for the money, the SR5 was a better value.
That said, my SR5 has been great for the offroading I've done. It is a really capable vehicle out of the box. Also, I'd definitely have pushed more for my dealer to have found me an SR5 with the 120V AC outlet in the cargo area instead of settling for one that matched perfectly other than the outlet.

TE in white would be the only thing I would have changed if it was a choice.

I have a 2010 SR5 4x4 & still have my 99 t4r highlander edition with a locking rear. We spend time off road but only locked the rear on the 99 twice. Once on the lot in 99 when it was new & recently to see if it was still working.
So when considering the 2010 the third row seat was the option I wanted both for carry the occasional high passenger load and the increased weight capacity (300lbs). I have a roof top tent the rear end does not squat down at all with it up there, on the 99 it does.
If you know or determine the type of driving you will be doing it should help you figure out which t4r you will get the most out of.

In my mind, I'm off-roading 2-3 times a year. In reality I've gone once in the last two years but I do have a trip planned next month. This will also be my vehicle to get me up the mountain during ski season, but I'm sure all 3 models would be quite capable in the snow.

Speaking from experience on this, in March I bought a Limited when I really had wanted a TE. In June I traded my Limited in on a TE. I love my TE the only thing I would change with it is the color... which would be a difficult choice, between the Salsa Red, Shoreline blue, and Classic Silver. 
For Trail usage I would rather have the silver to hide scuff marks, but I really love the way the Salsa Red looks, and the Shoreline blue has really been growing on me.
Since Toyota does not ship the TE my region (can't even configure it on the website). I had to settle for what the dealer could get in a dealer swap, they only had 2 to chose from and both were Mag Gray.

Mind if I asked why you wanted the TE over the limited and what pushed you to trade in the limited after 3 months?

I think it all come down to how or what you will use it for, if you will doing a lot of off road then you should consider TE, but if you are doing most city drive and only take it off road a few times a year then the SR5 4X4 will suitable for this category and you save a couple thousand dollars, however if money won't be an issue for you the Limited will serve you all around. Just IMHO.

If I could wave a magic wand, my Limited's exterior would look like the Trail's. Why they went with the two different exteriors, I have no idea...
But beyond that, everything else with the Limited I absolutely love, especially the keyless operation. Since I love adding and modding, I'm now waiting for cool front and rear bumpers. With those additions it will nullify the difference between the two models.

Every time I see a TE I get TE envy, but then remember how nice the full time AWD is and the leather seats. Ideal world, I would have a Limited with TE bumpers and diff lock.
I have to agree even though I love the blue I would have gotten a white one if it were available but I wouldn't get anything but a trail edition like I have.

I have a SR5 4x4 with "almost" everything I want on it. I love my truck, a little less at the moment since it has some maintenance issues. I really like the Limited but I didn't want to spend the extra $$$ and I didn't want to go with leather this time; I like the water proof seats and it stays cooler during hot summer days, like we are having right now. I don't go off road (hope to soon) but I like to go skiing so I bought the 4x4. Here are some things I wish the SR5 offered: 15 speaker stereo system, Navi, and bigger rims & tires. So to answer your question, I'm very happy with my SR5.

I couldn't say it any better. I tend to have cars for awhile and move on to something new, I think this is going to be a long term relationship. Wish it had HID lights, otherwise wouldn't change a thing
TE is missing a few little amenities. Annoyed that there's no HID and dual climate control. Wish I had smart key system, would definitely have ponied up some $$ for that option. All that being said, every time I look at my silver TE, I start to smile. Absolutely no regrets... well, except maybe I should have gotten 285 instead of 265 on my tires.

I love my Limited (traveled far just to get the exact one I wanted). A Trail just doesn't fit my style as much. I like the creature comforts. I do wish Toyota would have had some of the options of the Trail though (locking diffs, KDSS, and the mode selection). I would have also liked memory seats (I'm working on this though). Also, I do wish the center diff had the 2WD option the 4th gens have. I would also like to see a manual (don't care for autos much). I'm very happy with my Limited though. After my warranty ends I'm building a turbo or supercharger kit for it!

Styling, and the added off-road capabilities of the TE. I started looking at customizing the Limited to look the way I wanted. New wheels,tires the TE body molding, and the cost/work involved in swapping out the parts, it just seemed like it was the easier way was to get the TE.
