Question - Upgrade HP for '97 4Runner

Is it really worth putting the money into any upgraded parts - exhaust, airfilter, etc.

We have a '97 SR5 with 160,000 miles

Most basic intake-systems only guarantee an increase of something like 10hp. Everybody I know who installed one didn't do it because of the HP. It was due mostly to the sound it creates. I, like many others, enjoy the extra engine noise, and it almost feels more powerful than it really is.

I guess I'd say it's completely user-preference.

I was under the impression that exhaust headers was the one change that would add the most HP outside of actually cracking into the engine and making more complicated changes.
