Questions about cleaning MAF on a 2002

I’m doing plugs and wires next weekend, and I picked up some MAF cleaner to do that as well. Is there a good video tutorial to show the best way to do it? Also, I noticed some people pull the negative from the battery first, is this necessary?

It may just be my habit from a lifetime of being a radar tech and shop super, but we ALWAYS pull the negative lead from a power source first. Whether AC or DC, it's a safer method to pull the negative of any power source first.

Well, as one who has worked on 1950s positive ground pickups and tractors, the correct answer is to always pull the ground first, regardless if positive or negative.

I cleaned the MAF sensor in my 2002 Taomca TRD 4x4 about 15 years ago. I don't recall where I found instruction on how to proceed, likely the can or some online source as well. I do recall that I did not disconnect the battery, just the connector. I used CRC Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner. The wires in the sensor were dirty, plus I had a foxtail burr stuck between them. There was a marked improvement in how my truck ran afterward.

No reason to disconnect the battery and no walk through video needed.
Unplug the sensor
Remove the 2 screwes
Pull MAF out of housing
Spray sensor out until clean
Let it dry
Reinstall
