Questions about installing e7008 in a 2007 Limited

Hey Everyone,
I recently got my hands on an e7008 from an 06 4runner and will be looking to replace my factory head unit fairly soon. I currently have the JBL 10-speaker system setup with the standard JBL head unit that came with my 2007. As a complete noob when it comes to electrical stuff, how difficult is this swap out going to be for myself? I've gone through several threads but can't seem to find any walk through/step-by-step instructions depicting how difficult the process may be. Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated. I swapped out the HU in my 04 a few years back but it was a simple plug and play process and I felt like that was a lot simpler than this.

Also, is there anything else I need to get with the unit (i.e. nav disc, GPS, antenna, etc.). Again... I'm a noob at this so be gentle. Thanks to anyone who responds in advance.

Update:

Put the head unit in and everything works great for just basic function, with the exception of the AUX port in the center console. Any quick adjustments that can be made to have this port functional or did I miss something completely?

As this information was not available to you for the install, you should post your experience. What did you need? I.e. nav disc, GPS etc.

The install was fairly simple with just the headunit itself. I got lucky and found an e7008 for $400 including the nav disc at a salvage yard in NC. Once I got the dash taken apart it was a simple plug and play for basic functions (minus aux). The Nav Disc was already installed so the map works, just doesn't move when you drive haha.

I ordered the GPS antenna off ebay yesterday for $20 and should be in on Saturday for the install. I have read on here as well to save the $$$ and just get an eclipse/cheaper antenna. They all seem to work just about the same. We will see if there is any issues but from what I read, that is the least of troubles.

As for the speed sensor, reverse hookup, etc., I haven't looked into much of that yet. That will be next on the list after I get the AUX working and the GPS antenna installed.

One thing I was interested to see was the gap from the stock radio and the new nav installed. I currently have the 07 Limited, 6 Disc JBL Synthesis 10 speaker setup. But with the nav installed there is a gap so I have ordered the bezel from Metra to fit smoothly. That will be in on Friday as well so both of those will be added this weekend.

With no electrical re-wiring experience i'm hesitant thus far to try and dive into tapping into speed sensors and start stripping down wires. My luck with these projects tends to fix one thing and mess up another. So any help/guidance is always appreciated.

AS far as the VSS/reverse/parkingbrake plug, check out: Toyota Harness Adapter Kit (10-pin, 6-pin, 5-pin)? | BH4 ?Beat Sonic International This kit comes with some plugs, but all you need is one. Toyota USED to sell the 5 pin plug (you only 3 pins and leave the remaining 2 blank) for $5, but stopped offering it. I was fortunate enough to have the ebayer who sold me my E7009 the plug which he happened to have.

As far as the NAV bezel, if you want it to look completely factory, you will have to get a new center console bezel. You want an SR5 bezel with a NON-JBL AND an HVAC that matches the bezel. Yeah, I know a massive pain. This idiot (me) did all that. I was all horny to get all OEM, but man did it cost me. (read: I won't do that again)

I'm coming from a P1803 (stock JBL synthesis unit for my 07 Limited) so there actually is no wiring to my knowledge for that hookup in the vehicle. The only 3 hookups on the back of the p1803 are for the steering wheel controls, power/audio, and the cd changer. I'm assuming the wiring for the aux is tied into the cd changer somehow. I'm trying to find out how to tap into that wiring to get the aux to work.

CookieRoe- Sorry to dig up a two-year old thread/question but I'm FINALLY getting around to tackling the VSS/Reverse/parking brake wire tapping project with the goal being to add a backup camera...

The issue that I'm running into is the Yellow RCA cable on the aftermarket camera has nowhere to hookup on the back of the OEM Headunit (E7008). So... after doing some digging and research I purchased this harness but still can't seem to understand how to tap into the Reverse/VSS/brake port... I've found the 5-pin connector housing online but still beating my head against the wall with the hookups.

Any help is appreciated!

With all due respect to what you want to do, go another route.

I did the same thing, got the nav unit, oem backup camera, camera tailgate handle, all the extra plugs and wiring, oem Bluetooth speaker overhead console and steering wheel buttons, complete wiring harnesses for camera and amp, radio bezel and hvac unit etc.

There was soooooo much involved that i put all of it away and got a Kenwood unit and camera. It all worked out so much better and less involved, and bonus it has a usb port and bluetooth built in so no trying to get the aux console plug to work.

Here's the problem: The camera (+,-, etc, etc) wires are part of the 25 pin terminal. You're not going to find any kind of adaptor (say, RCA cable to whatever) that will allow you to "just plug it in". The RCA cable is going to have to be gutted and soldered into regular wires. Of course, you are going to have to figure out what wire does what on the RCA cable. If you are adept at splicing wire and finding how to hook everything up, have at it. As you can see, it's very involved.

Like inscarguy mentioned, if you can , go another route. I decided to go with an Android powered headunit. HiDef camera, Blutooth4, etc etc and it's practically plug and play. If you are headstrong about keeping your OEM NAV (like I was), and you can't do the wiring, find a shop that can help you.
