Questions about my 1990 4-R

I JUST PICKED UP A 1990 Toyota 4 runner, (V-6, auto, 4-wheel) is it true the 1990 thru 1995 all take the same parts?
Where is the fuel pump and the fuel filter located?
How does the front skid plate come off?
how many bolts are involved to get it off and when you get the bolts off does it just drop down or is it hinged?
With the rear window down on the back door I cannot get the rear door lock lever to pull up, it does not move so I can't get the rear door open.
Also, the rear window does not always respond when I push the power switch on the console.

I'm relatively new here, too. This is also my first 4runner. However, I have owned or own 4 other toyota vehicles. I have a 1992 Model 4runner , 4x4 automatic, 3.0.

The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. It is electrically driven. The fuel filter is about halfway up the inner frame rail on the passenger side. Kind of a PITA to get to, but not impossible.

The skid plate on my 92 is attached by 4 bolts , one on each corner. There is a small hook-shaped bracket on the back of the plate near the rear. It acts like a little handle to hold the back of the plate upwhile you are removing the screws. The front has no such hook. The plate can easily be removed completely.

You'll have to crawl in the back of the 4runner and pop off the carpeted panel in the middle of the rear door. Just carefully slide your fingertips under the edge and pull gently. You'll feel the little fasteners pop, one by one as you move your hands behind the panel. Then take off the plastic liner carfull, as well. This is a dust shield and helps keep things clean and functioning. If y ou happen to tear it due to its age, I'm sure you can just cover the opening when finished with a bit of mild adhesive and an appropriatly cut trash bag. Once all this is out of the way, you will be able to see the workings of the lock mechanism and the window brackets. Check for gummed works around the lock mechanism. As for the switch not working, you may have a loose or corroded ground connection in the rear door. (mine did the same thing -- console switch worked intermittently ). For me it turned out to be a combination of things. Some of the weather stripping around the bottom of the rear door had come off the holders and was letting moisture in. I put that back. It still didn't work, but I used some spray contact cleaner from Radio Shack to spray inside the switch , itself. Fixed it right up. The switch's location tends to let it accumulate dust and debris.

BTW thw skid plate has a bar that stops it from falling down on you, but you shuld still use your spare arm to keep pressure on it as you lower it.
