Not speaking from experience but I'm sure you can run them with stock gears. You're not going to win any drag races but it'll move.

And yes, you'll have to trim, pound the pinch welds. Not a big deal, I have to with 33's. If you go with a big body lift, you may get around the trimming but I doubt it.

I'm running 315/70R17's with my stock gears. Obviously around town gas mileage sucks. Freeway mileage isn't too bad. I'm seeing 15-17mpg with mixed city and highway driving. I recommend re-gearing at some point. I've noticed my ATF light has come one twice since I switched to 315's. one time was wheeling thru 4' of snow and another time was reversing up a hill with a 16' Fiberglas drift boat. I recommend an external ATF cooler if you don't have one already and possibly a power steering cooler. I noticed my P/S pump getting really hot when I was aired down to 5psi up in some deep snow. I think running those coolers will prolong the life.

I'm still on stock gears. It was a bit sluggish for the first couple days on 315's going from 29" tires. As ryankmasuda said, city mpg sucks, but I'm surprised to be getting 16+mpg highway miles. It's about 10-12mpg city. I've never thrown any codes. I'd like to go to 4.88's though.

Thanks guys, yeah I was just curious how doggy it would be and if it would still drive and be ok on highway with that large of a tire .... With my lift and a 2 inch body is it still needed to cut pinch weld or anything else ???

You won't really know til you get the tires on. You're prob just gonna have to hammer the pinch welds. You might want to/need to tub some of your fenderwells. Mine drives great on the highways. I've done 15 hours straight from AZ to Norcal and also a few other 8 hour road trips. No probs whatsoever.

Thanks downpour ! And pics of where to hammer or tub it ???? Cause I'm considering going up to 35s very soon.

Well, you'll need to cycle your suspension with the tires on in order to know where you need to tub. I'll get you a pic of the pinch weld though. I didn't tub my fenderwells up front because I don't have too much flex up there.

You might need to remove your rear bumper and extend your bumpstops.
As you can see the result of not extending bumpstops, the tire has pulled out the inner fender lip on full stuff.

No problemo - close, but they're bald mickey thompson mtz's lol

I have 35's and stock 4.10 gears. The most annoying thing to me is when I'm on the highway and the truck constantly downshifts everytime there is a slight incline. Around town is fine though. I hope to get 5.29 gears soon.

i had 4,10s for a few weeks (i have 4cyl) and i would burn my clutch when stoped at anny hill, it was not fun,,,, if you have 35s and auto your tranny is taking a beating and you may not know it...

if you dont want rub you will need to tubyour firewall/fender hammer wont do enough..... sure you could hammer but dont turn and go over any bumps

I don't rub off road and I didn't tub. I just pounded the firewall with a hammer. 1" body lift. The tires will rub the frame at full lock, but you can't really get around that with 315s. If you don't run a bl, then tubbing will be necessary for the trails.

have you removed your strut and jacked the tire up to the bump stops and turned lock to lock?

i guess it depends what you want to do and how big of bump

Yeah, I went to 35s about a year and a half ago. I've stuffed my tires every which way off road and I don't rub on the firewall at all, even with "true" 35s (the MT/Rs I have run the biggest of any 315 that I know of).

My build thread (starting on page 35) shows how I cycled the suspension, cut the outer/lower part of the fenders back, and pounded the firewall to fit the 35s. I spaced my front bump stops about .25", but even that isn't necessary. I've since learned that you can actually make an adjustment to the caster, and that will minimize contact even more and still have a good alignment on road.

I'll be going to 35's soon, hoping to slide by with stock 4.10s for at least a couple months. I have a 5-speed though, so roasting the clutch will be a problem. I'll probably have to replace the actual clutch pack before 35's, after 164k miles, mines starting to slip.

True that. I went from 2.13* to 3.48* of caster angle to the driver side. Where the tire used to rub against the frame at full lock is now history.:reddance:

im sure you can accomplish the same thing with a big hammer.

ether way my mtrs are about 1/4in away from rubbing the firewall when fully compressed

this isnt my truck but i cut about the same amount
