Questions after a 930 mile shake down cruise

Up to this point TRD ORP had 258 miles on it. Set out this morning about 0030 after fiddling with the etune Navigation. Why do the maps suck so bad? No state lines, no small towns. Aggravating, but after 200 miles i got to know it better and it useable at least.

Why such a small gas tank? Averaged 17.9 mpg and had to stop 3 times for fuel. I guess it's not terrible, just used to a 30 Gal tank.

Found that nosedive everyone talks about. That dog won't hunt. I keep thinking my brakes are fading but then the whole nose of the truck tried to dig into the asphalt.

Getting a lot of wind coming in the doors, with Windows up. Is this normal? Going to pull the weather tech window thingies on the return trip tomorrow and see if there's any change.

So after 12 hours behind the wheel only stopping for gas, I was just starting to get uncomfortable. Not a bad ride.

I think the tank is pretty normal today for a midsize SUV. At your 17.9mpg on a 23 gallon tank thats just over 400 miles of travel?
I would definitely attribute the wind noise to the window vents for sure.

I think the issue is normally I look forward to getting out and streaching, just didn't feel the need to. Just wanted to subtract minutes from the arrival time on the GPS. Lol.

Did my longest drive in the 4runner so far. Went from Jacksonville, FL to the west of Tallahassee over the weekend to do some volunteer hurricane clean up. About a 400 mile round trip..I was cruising at 80 or better both ways, averaged around 16.8 MPG which is about what I'd expect at that speed. Had plenty of power to pass when I needed to.

Didn't really use the cruise that much, probably should have to give my right foot a break from pushing on the gas the whole time.

Noticed it catches the wind pretty good..crossing over one our bridges it was pretty windy and you could feel it getting blown around a bit, but that's to be expected with a rig like this..

Comfort wise I didn't have any issues, seat felt good on my back even after a long day of hard work..

I agree with [MENTION=261195]Charlievee[/MENTION], the maps are pretty bad..Wish there was an easier way to update or get better maps on the navigation and there should be a button on the main nav screen to just cancel navigation. maybe I'm missing something..

Did have 2 lock up the brakes twice and I'm impressed the way it stops for it's size, bit of nose dive but nothing terrible..first time a semi decided to change lanes even though the nose of my rig was well passed his rear bumper..that was scary..2nd time traffic flat stopped on the interstate while I was going 80 about 3 car lengths behind a dually Dodge..that was fun..

Definitely not the same as driving the family minivan, but all and all a good experience. I'll feel like it's comfortable enough for long distance drives and will put that to the test when I make a 600-mile drive the week after next up to West Virginia...

The longest roadie I've done with was a weekend trip to Toronto, ON two summers ago. A round trip of 1K miles, I had a lot of seat action in a short amount of time. It was more comfortable than I thought it would be was quickly remined that the 4Runner is an elevated box on 17" tires. Winds were always felt and heard while driving highways speeds. Most of my driving on the way up was cruise control since I drove at night. On the way home, it was mainly pedal driving. With the stock Duelers and dry roads, the 4Runner was good enough to do what needed to be done on pavement.

Did 2k miles in four days a few weeks ago going from NW IL to San Diego, getting 20.5mpg through most of the flat lands, but it dropped to 17mpg through the mountains in NM, AZ, and CA. I've found it's noticably better mileage with cruise control than using the pedal, but it may just be I don't use cruise as much in heavier traffic.

It's definitely like driving a giant sail when the wind's going. The entire drive through KS and OK I was pulling it to the left to offset the crosswind, but I have the same in channel deflectors and never noticed air infiltration, unless you meant just noise.

It's definitely the most comfortable ride I've ever had, the 05 Limited I came from was pretty good, but I'd be way more sore after that much driving.

Oh and I haven't bothered with the built in Nav, in either the 05 or the 18. I find Google Maps always does a better job and takes less input to get started. If you have access to it definitely give it a try. I keep my phone mounted with a RAM Mount and use the Bluetooth connection to the radio.

Got back in at 3am this morning, all done and said 2248 miles in 53 hours. Not sure how the AVG mpg computer works, but got her up to 18.4 this was doing mostly 80, sometimes more, sometimes less. Just seems to like to go 80 to 85. Really have to keep my foot out of it or set the cruise next go around to see if I can hit that magic 20mpg.

Still don't know the deal with the wind noise. Can't feel it anyplace, just loud.

Going to look into getting the Android mirror parts for the head unit. The stock nav is ok around town, if you like traffic but going state to state leaves a lot to be desired. Largest complaint would be the lack of detail, when choosing your route. Figured it out, if there's a major city, that's where it's taking you. Gotta be a complete waste offroad. Can you get expansion packs like the Garmin?
