Questions from a new 4Runner owner and forum member

Greetings,

Today I bought a 97 4Runner SR5 and I'm in love with it. My first car as a kid was an 89 Landcruiser so I've always been partial to Toyotas.

Anyway, I'm just curious about what sorta general wear-and-tear I should plan for with such an old car. It has 175,000 miles on it but it was well taken care of and supposedly never abused off-road or anything.

The previous owner gave me a new set of brake rotors and pads, as he said they were about due to be replaced. Is that easy to do? And what else should I be looking to replace? I checked the transmission fluid and it's looking pretty ratty, so I'm going to take it to the shop to do that, unless someone recommends I do that myself. Also, the timing belt was replaced a few thousand miles ago.

Welcome aboard! 175K is nothin for these trucks, it's just getting broken in! The timing belt is one of the most critical things to replace and yours has been done recently so ur good there. Other than that just do the usual maintenance items: belts, hoses, plugs, wires, new fluids(oil,coolant,brake n power steering). Maybe flush the radiator, check ur shocks, ball joints, bushings etc. This should get u started. Good luck!
