questions on HIDS

Hey guys,

im new to this forum, and i want to apologize in advance for all the dumb questions.

Dumb questions number 1: I just installed o-nex hids and when i turn them on, they wont turn on every time. in some cases they BOTH will turn on, but most of the time its One light at a time. for me to get them both on, i turn it off and on several times before both of them turn on. I have not installed anything else except what came in the box (ballast, light bulb) i was reading about relays, but i still do not know what they do exactly, and if i need them for my 01 Runner.. Any suggestions will help!

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like the problem is a combination of poor quality HIDs and lack of relays.

Most lesser quality HIDs pull more voltage, especially at startup. That's where a relay will help. The relay basically pulls power directly from the battery when the lights need extra voltage (normally just at start up). My guess is a relay will solve the problem you're having.
