Questions - Sport Bumper Trim

Anyone out there install the Toyota Sport Bumper Trim on a '03 or '04? I never have seen the piece up close, is it worth installing or should I go for an aftermarket bar? Is it easy to install?

My boss has a 03 SR5 with the bumper trim. It looked ok, but she got in a bit of a fender bender and it shatterd into bits. I've got the T&H short bullbar on my 03 Limited and it was very easy to install. 6 bolts and no cutting. It also has mountpoints for driving lights. Check out Auto Seattle for some pics.
 
There is a posting somewhere, (I can't find it now), that showed a shattered sport bumper. The guy'd mistakenly hit something just a bit, and it was shattered.

I was AMAZED. It looked from pictures to be a big tough piece of hard rubber, and I'd never have guessed it was a fragile, hollow piece of plastic.

NO, I wouldn't pay the $500 for that....

I'd like to find something very simple, that protruded just enough to protect the bumper, like a rubber pushbar, that just had two vertical hunks of rubber, that could take a bit of a beating.

Someone said Pep Boys sold something rubber like that.
 
The Toyota "style bar" is hollow plastic. And it protects like it. My T&H was $380 for stainless steel and that thing is going nowhere soon. I just saw another post of someone with a Westin brush guard that looked good too.

Sport Bumper Trim

Thanks for the information. I don't think I'll be going for the Toyota Sport Trim, too much about "shattered hollow plastic" in your replys. I do like the T&H Bull Bar, sounds easy to install and looks good.

Vcoglian, can you post a pic of the T&H Bull Bar in stainless mounted on your Titanium Limited. I have the same vehicle, curious how the stainless looks with the Titanium.

Nathannookie, I'm also going to stop at Pep Boys to see about the rubber piece you mentioned.

i have the westin safari light bar - it was cheap and it looks pretty good...heres a pic.

Here are a few pics... The only gripe I've got is that they only give you a couple of inches to mount lights.

I just ran out and took some close-ups of the sport bumper. I assume this is the bumper you are talking about. This is the one that toyota offers directly from them. They charged around $500 to put it on my car! Note the way it is bolted to the bottom of the bumper.

Thanks for the pics - very helpful. It looks like the T&H bar might hide the front license plate?

Also to Lloyd, I read in an earlier post you had your westin bar painted. Did you just bring it to an auto body shop to have it painted?

All your trucks look great!
 
Mark86...I have to say that the (your) Toyota Sport bumper looks great, and those plastic pieces look like big honkin rubber bumpers that would bounce off ANYTHING.

So, why couldn't they have been?

I would gladly have paid $500 for a bumper that really worked.

I wonder if there is a way to pump silicone, or something, inside of them, making them more resilient.
 
nathannookie, I agree with you. I don't think that the Toyota bumper gives the car that much protection. I put it on to stop cars from parking too close to me and for the looks! :jester:

bobbyc - yes i took it in to get painted. it only cost 100 canadian, and i didnt want black or chrome, i thought it would look better the same color.
 
Same reason I bought mine. It gives others something to think about.

BTW, the lower bar on the T&H, when viewed dead on, is even with the top of the license plate. Looking down from a normal viewing angle, it does block it a bit.
 
nathannookie, thanks a lot for information. I will definitely take those rubber bumpers into consideration. The thing that I am thinking about is how they will look.
