Quick Bilstein question

So I'm looking to order a set of shocks/struts for my 3g 4Runner and I'm looking at this Bilstein 24-187244 Monotube Shock Absorber | AJUSA.COM

The description labels it as a front 4wd shock absorber, but the front requires a strut...what's the deal?

Or does the Bilstein not make a front strut for the 4runner? This one looks just like the rear shock, not a strut at all. A quick reply from anyone that knows would be great.

It's the front shock for a coilover, just doesn't have the coil. That's what that round black plate to the left is, it seats the bottom of the coil on the little ring you can see part way down the shock.

I would not buy those. Bilstein 5100's are worth the few extra$ even if you don't use them for any lift.

Aren't the 5100's only for lifted trucks? I'm not trying to spend a ton of money...what's a comparable brand to the Bilsteins in the price range of the 4600s?
Also, why don't you like the 4600?

The 5100's can be put on an unlifted truck, they can also be used to lift the front of the truck using the stock springs. There are 4 different settings on the 5100's 0", 0.85", 1.75", and 2.5". The 0.85" setting is a nice "no cost" bump in the suspension that won't require any additional lift in the rear or additional modifications to the front.

The 5100's perform a lot better than the 4600's on and off-road and are a noticeable upgrade for very little additional $.

Whoops, I was thinking of the 5100's for the later trucks - same basic principles apply, just slightly different lift options:

The 0" lift or 1.25" lift would do well with an otherwise stock suspension. That's the price for a pair - not much more money...

Thanks for taking the time, it's about a $70 difference so I'm going to research a little more.
