One of the red coiler over springs on my passenger side front has cracked. I don't now anything about struts. Is this spring available separately that the strut/shock? Is it a separate part number? Can you actually replace these springs, or is there no way to compress the spring to swap them out? Are they not removable, etc. What are my options to replace? I like the performance of the Bilstein shocks/struts. My brother has Fox shocks/struts on his newer TRD Pro, and had to have Toyota replace them once under warranty for constantly making a clunking noise. I prefer to stay away from Fox. Thanks.

Yes, the spring is replaceable. You can do it without a spring compressor, just 'google' for a youtube on replacing front spring on a 4runner and the floor jack under the lower control arm should be an option. Or you can just remove the whole strut assembly and take it to an auto shop and have them replace the spring for you.

This was a very common problem, and that's my guess as to why Toyota stopped using Bilstein for them, and switched to Fox, but then Fox had the same problem occasionally too. I think they used the same coil spring provider, and they failed the same way, by breaking.
These springs here will work if you just want to replace the coils.

Yup. Sometimes Toyota springs are hard to get a cheap compressor in between the coils. In that rare case I have taken them to 4WP and they charged me $20 each to change the springs or compress the springs for a height change.
