Hey guys, I just found out why my rear right drum has been sticking. Apparently my rear axle is leaking because the shoes and seals need replaced. My mechanic was not sure if the bearing also have to be replaced when in order to replace the seals/shoes. Does anyone know if the bearings have to be replaced? Is it Recommended?

Start with the inner seal for a relatively easy job and see if that fixes your problem (there are a multitude or writeups on how to do it). Make sure you check your breather valve on top of your differential that it is not blocked. I feel that is the root cause in most seal leakage.
You can just unscrew it and blow through it to check. It should allow air out but not in.
If you are still leaking after the inner seal replacement and your breather is in good shape, then you have bigger problems.

The bearing doesn't have to be replaced but it's not uncommon for it to need to be replaced after a leaking seal. Typically the inner seal is the problem and, as already mentioned, is easy to replace. The outer seal is a different story and requires several parts to be cut off or pressed off, i.e. abs rotor ring, outer seal, bearing. The bearing can be checked when replacing the inner seal, but if it needs to be replaced then the other parts I mentioned above need to be replaced with it
