Quick opinion on wheel desireability

So i've got an '01 SR5 Sport Package, 42,000 miles, working on making it immaculate. It has the 16" 3 spoke alloys on it, that have some rash and a bit of corrosion where the wheel weights messed them up- wanting to replace them with something reburfished.. so either the same 3 spoke clear coated or the OEM 5 spoke painted alloys.

Which are considered more desireable and more appropriate for the Sport package? Seems the pricing on the 5 spoke is a bit lower for refurbished rims.. I think I'm kinda digging them more, tho.. I know, I know, get the ones I like.. but which would be better for resale down the road?

I agree that you should go with what you like. If the work is clean and tasteful, it won't hurt the resale value down the road.

I agree with the 5 stars. I prefer those, and I think more people prefer them than not. Plus, 5 stars will clear the 231mm Tundra calipers if you ever decide to do that upgrade.

Also, the Highlander/Sport Package/Sport Edition never came with the split 3 spoke wheels. They had the 5 stars in '99-'00 and the 5 spoke "coke bottle" rims in '01-'02.

Yeah, the three spoke on the vehicle are noted on the window sticker as an upgrade...actually the 5 spoke i'm looking at are these...

Nothing out there saying you have to stick with 3rd gen wheels. Sequoia wheels are a great looking upgrade, for cheap. They totally update the look of our rig as well

Wow only 41,000 miles?

Did you do a carfax to check for odometer rollback?


Stick with OEM wheels. I had my 5-stars powder coated black for $75 a wheel.

* I finally got my new 5-Star Toyota Wheels installed.
* I had them Powder Coated at --San Diego Powder Coating-- which is located in El Cajon.
* I painted the Center Caps Toyota logo gloss red by hand.

Total cost: $320 out the door for the powder-coating.

Factory Center Cap Painted Red (above)

* It took about 1 hr to paint the Logo red on all 4 of these
* I actually spent far more time failing at painting the center-caps gloss black before adding the red
* I was forced to strip them down to the plastic and primer them before I got the paint to stick
