Quick plastidip question

Planning on plastidipping my wheels, i have some small rust spots, like surface rust or w.e, should I sand it down first and then do the plastidip... or it doesn't matter?

I'd sand it if you want it to look good... The more time you put into prepping, the better it will turn out

I lightly sand most things I plastidip but most things I dip have real bad clear coat peel. For rust sand it off if it small and deep get some sort of rust inhibitor.

I plastidipped my wheels for the first time, and all I did was clean the surface really well. There was still brake dust caked on my wheels when I dipped them. It's been a month and they are still holding up well

Clean very well and then degrease the surface and make sure it's dry before applying the Plastidip. First coat should be light, let dry :flamethrwoer2: and go from there....

Simple Green or the cleaner from plastidip site, it's good stuff but pricey.

Also, if you have tires mounted on the wheel, apply some of that tire shine crap to them before you plastidip and the overspray will wipe right off.

I've dipped and painted. I would think you need a lot more prep for painting. Dipping, if the spot goes bad fix it and spray over it.

Thanks yall, by the way here's a pic of all the little spots on my wheels.

Should I just use steel wool or some sort of cleaner... Or just degrease and spray over it

Use a very fine grit metal sandpaper and lightly go over the entire surface, then clean and degrease with a microfiber towel. Dry well and you can even use a heat gun carefully to dry.

Get CLR and see if that help any. Probably some fine wet sanding will also help.

I heard these are good for roughing up the surface and smoothing imperfections. Its what I am going to use when I clean up my wheelsfor plastic-dipping
