Quick Question about my battery

I was kind of unsure about where to post this, but since I've had great help here I figured it would be ok.

I just got home from getting my car serviced and while there they said that my battery needed to be replaced. I just have some regular True Start battery or something (it came with the car). I know that this type of battery is not ideal for car audio, but I'm only pushing 1,000 RMS at the MAX, probably more around 800 or so.

At night with my headlights on and my A/C on I don't have dimming.

Is my battery just old or am I pulling too much current? Would another regular car battery be good or should I get a red top or something?

So the main question is do you think my battery was just old, not sure on it's age (it came with the car), or do you think the audio in my car is drawing too much power?

Sounds Like you just need a new battery, but considering that you have a system I don;t think that it would be a bad idea to invest in an Optima Battery, I am a heavy supporter of Optima batteries they are pretty indestructible. I dropped one in a lake once, pulled it out and it worked just fine!

I'm hoping it's just old, but I'm sure that having some audio isn't necessarily good for it.

Dropping it in a lake and it still working says alot about how they are built.

Have you had any starting issues? If not I wouldnt worry about it yet. Be careful about what the stealer tells you. Alot of times they tell you that you need a new batt since its old or just to try and upsell something to you since batteries are an easy sell. A guy i work with had worked at a dealer and 1 particular lube guy kept an old battery in his stall so that he could test it, print out the result and sell a battery even when it wasnt needed. Typical battery life is usually around 4-8 years. Ive seen good and bad things about optima. I use interstate myself and am very pleased with them.

I haven't noticed any starting problems. I was auctually at a AAA center.

What would be telling signs of a bad battery?

Is the CCA droppage a problem?

Unfortunatley i've seen aaa people pull the same crap and/or have little knowledge of what they are doing. I once watched 2 aaa techs take 30 mins to install a battery in a camry. (no joke!) I wouldn't worry about your battery. If you had slow cranking, flickering lights or a intermittently dead battery, I would worry then. If you have the extra cash and want peace of mind that you have a new batt, you can go ahead and get one

I agree with Toytech on the unnecessary battery replacement when you have no electrical related issues. If you are worried about battery life with your system, which shouldn't be an issue, then you may want to look into installing a capacitor. You could run a 1.2 farad and pick one up for a decent price.
