Quick question on wiring harness for cd->dvd player in 3rd Gen

I have an aftermarket cd player in my 4Runner...if I get a Pioneer dvd player (in-dash) will it use the same wiring harness that I already have behind the cd player? So basically just plug and play?

ya just take ur wire harness and un-splice it from the current harness that belongs to ur CD player and u can use that with the new In-dash system... I did that with my harness and only takes 5 min if ur good with wiring and maybe up to 30 min if not so much.

I can't remember on which side I hard wired it too....so the short answer is that the harnesses are the same. The long answer is that I might have to hard wire it again? :dammit:

well yes its the same harness but it should be easy... well if u bought the toyota wire harness. Basically all u have to do it un-crimp or splice the cd radio harness from the toyota one and now splice the new pioneer indash harness into the toyota harness... Once that is done u just plug it into the wires of the factory amp wire harness in the center dash area. All the colors should be the same (such as orange with orange, blue with blue, etc)

So basically I just need to connect each wire to the new harness as I take the old one off.

YA pretty much... ya mine was kinda weird on how to do the bypass, i was to move one wire in a separate harness to a different location.

Ur best bet tho for ur unit (which i did also), is look up the bypass for ur specific indash model on Youtube and Google and there should be step by step instructions.

FYI, I got the single din dvd player....for the price I couldn't beat it...was BNIB...still on Amazon for $695, but my buying price was way less!!!! :thumb3:

lol well thats kool dude... congrats! Well just to let u know it might be a little more work bc most single dins ive installed for friends has the screen single din part and an external brain that ull need to add somewhere else, maybe under the seat or something. Not sure if the one u got is like that but just to let know wat ive experienced... just in case.

Well post up pics and keep us updated when u receive it and get it installed.

Ok, got everything hooked up and working. It was actually a lot easier b/c I have an amp on my 4 speakers...so those were already hard wired...didn't have to mess with those.

1 question though....the Pioneer harness does not have a wire for the power antenna...so I ran it into the amp remote wire (which is what the manual said to do)...but now the power antenna is up all the time....is there a way around this or a way to run the wire where the antenna only comes up with I am listening to the radio?

oh ya i forgot that the newer Pioneer indash models do that... well i have a taco whip now so i dont have that problem but check out RockSlide's link and u can make a switch like his if u like. I wouldve done this if i still had a power antenna bc its unique and looks very nice and factory.

Awesome, thanks...I will PM Rock Slide. I guess that when you run the switch to turn the power antenna up or down that you only have to run the blue wire from the 4runner to one of the poles on the switch? Or do you have to run a ground too?
