Quick! Tire question!

I'm looking at a set of used Duratracs for my truck- they've got about 1500 miles on them. They're the 10 ply, load range E tires.

I'm wondering if they'll be too stiff for my '03 DC Tacoma? Or for my 99 4Runner for that matter?
I have no lift, and seldom load the truck down. No aftermarket bumpers, etc, just a fiberglass topper. Same is true for the T4R- no big mods.

He's letting them go for a decent price, not a steal, but about as good as it gets around here.
He bought a truck from the dealer, and the PO put brand new Duratracs on it right before he traded it in. Weird, but true.

Don't buy it for either. Tires will cup badly unless you run high air preassures.

They only reason I would buy them is to flip for profit. They will hide very harsh on both of those vehicles.

He's asking $800 for the tires, I'm planning on offering $700, so flipping them for a profit won't be my motive. They were purchased at a local retailer for about $260/ea.

Cupping? That's the first I've heard of that being an issue.

What do you mean when you say high pressure? I know they need to be run around 42-45 psi.

What size are they? I'm assuming 265/75/16, but that $800 price isn't that good. $700 would be a little better.

For the same price you could buy brand new C Load Duratrac's which will handle much better on your 4Runner. I would definitely pass.

The best prices I found were online, nobody local even came close to $800. discounttiredirect.com had the C's for $204, and the E's for $219 last time I checked. So that's $816 and $876 respectively. That's why I'm going to offer him $700, because I've still got to get them mounted. The more I read, I'm not real keen on going with a C tire, as I'd like to be able to switch these between the T4R and the Taco. One of the trucks will get sold this summer and I'm not sure which yet.

Yeah, forgot to mention the size- they are 265/75/16.

4 Wheel Parts has them for $193 each. Just show Discount Tire and they'll match the price. That's $772 + mounting and balancing. I run the C load Duratrac's on my 4Runner and I love them. Just like 4-Ripcord said, the E's are gonna be way too harsh, and I honestly don't think $700 is a good deal for those tires. If you really want them then go for it; I just don't want you to regret it later.

Well, I bought em. $700.
I got to thinking about it for a bit, and the smoothest car I've ever owned is a 2000 Subaru Outback. That's not saying the Subaru is smooth, just that everything else I've owned has been a truck-like ride.

Coming from driving a CJ7 and a Wrangler, this T4R is still going to be smoother, even if these load range E Duratracs ride "rough." It's all a matter of what you're used to I guess.

I will however, report back once I get them on. Should be a week or two, still have some odds and ends to tie up on the maintenance side of things.
