Quiet Rumble while in 4WD and Low Speed turns

Hey Folks,

When I stick the Rig in 4WD, like I did this past weekend in the mountains, and made a turn in say a parking lot or 4-way stop at low speeds, I heard a low volume rumble.

When I put it in 2wd, and performed the same activity, I heard no such rumble.

Any thoughts?

Diff and Transfer fluids were changed this past summer.

Still going to get a little bind especially in a tight turn in parking lot with good traction. Yes this is possible even with Open diffs. That is why it warns you not to put in 4wd unless in a limited traction environment. That is my best guess without hearing the specific sound. Hopefully this helps you out a little, but I dont think it is anyhting serious or to worry about.

I had a new member describe the same thing in his 3rd gen when testing 4wd out turning around in his Cul-d-Sac after purchasing a new to him truck and first 4x4.

An unlocked center diff shouldnt be binding. I never had that in my old V6 4x4 or the V8 4x4 I have now.

It might the steering buffer pad or something like that, a member had similar symptoms and this was the case. There is a thread with pics somewhere.

GMZ, I didnt know that All the 4th Gens had the center diff on the transfer case. I know in the 3rd gens you only had the center diff on the Limited which was more of a AWD/4wd set up. I will stick with the 3rd gens since I know more about them.

It sounds like the center diff might have been locked.

What GMZ is referring to is the possibility the steering stops are dry, if your steering is turned all way to the left or right. Add a dab of grease to the stops and you'll be fine.
