Quietest/Least Drone Muffler or Exhaust System Available

My stock muffler has taken quite the beating and needs to be replaced:

Instead of buying another, probably very expensive, OEM muffler I'm considering an aftermarket one. I would be open to a full cat-back system as well, but only if I can find a quiet one that doesn't drone. I'm not a fan of loud exhausts and certainly not of drone. I had the TRD system on my Taco and that wasn't too bad, but with the enclosed body of the 4Runner, I am afraid drone would be an issue. So help me out, what systems out there are the quietest and which ones drone the least or not at all. Thanks in advance.

Check out Dirty Deeds Industries, located in California. Not sure if he has a jig set up for 5th gens but if you took your truck to him I'm guessing he would build a system for you.

He uses aluminized steel or stainless steel. I have the stainless system in my 4th gen and it is basically bulletproof heavy. His mufflers are small in diameter which keeps them tucked way up, can be built to any length, and can be built with a helmholtz resonator which keeps down the drone. The only issue is the price but I think it's the best exhaust out there sound-wise for the 4th gen V8, and definitely the most bullet-proof.

Why does yours need replaced? Is it leaking? Mine looks similar, still works just fine.

I would imagine you could get a stock one fairly cheep used from someone going aftermarket.

I bought a Gibson catback for my 2017 SR5 when it had less than 5,000 miles on it. I've got my full stock catback and the box the Gibson came in. If you're interested in paying to ship it out to Cali I'd let it go for a fair price. Also, the Gibson is fairly tame in the noise department. ~$500 for the stainless steel version with a lifetime warranty.

Also, if anyone wants to put up some sound clips/videos of their exhaust, preferably while cruising at 70/75/80 MPH from within the cabin, that would be awesome.

Had the Borla on my 14TE and know on 17TRDP. Excellent system, no droning at any of the speeds. Will see if I have time to take a clip for you this week

Keith at Dirty Deeds built a system for my Tundra. Loved it. No drone on that V8. The helmholtz really worked.

I run an 18" Magnaflow, it's awesome, nice and loud,especially when you really get on it at about 4,000rpm.
If you want something quiet, go with oem. Every aftermarket exhaust I've ever seen is designed to increase airflow and power (read: decrease restriction, increase noise).

go custom like some of the guys say.. they can probably just cut out the piping and weld in a new resonator for 1/3 of the price of a new complete system

IMPO a larger canister is quieter , as big as you can & as someone said have them weld in a cherry bomb(also called resonator) ! Borla is what Mustangs use , so look around flowmaster makes some large ones for Suv . But like [MENTION=130999]Inv4drZm[/MENTION] said dirty deeds is popular over on Toy.120 with guys there !

Magnaflow 12586 muffler is da bomb. Not too deep, but a good noise.

Hmm... very interesting. I will have to check this out. Do you have this system? If so, could you do me a huge favor and record the sound and post it here? If you can do it while cruising the highway at 70 - 80 MPH, that would be awesome.

I don't have the stock spare tire anymore, so that isn't a problem. I run 35" tires so the stock spare is not very useful. I have a full size spare on the rear bumper.
