He says he doesn't have a supplier for an e-locker....whateve. How hard is it to retrofit a stock e-locker? something like this Toyota E-locker Locking Differential TRD 4Runner Tacoma

Very expensive on the parts (like about 40-50% more than what I paid on each item), but the labor is reasonable. And screw the True-trac, get an Aussie or a Lockright - both are good solid lockers, cheaper, and will do much better off road than posi-traction which is what the True-trac is. Go to eastcoastgearsupply.com if you can take out your own 3rds. You get your new ones, swap them in and send your old 3rds back to them in the same boxes for a core. Plus they can install whatever locker you want in them and the gear's backlash is already pre-set up so you don't have to worry about whether or not it's going to be a good set-up, these guys do this all day long everyday.
Front:
Tacoma 7.5 Reverse Clamshell Assembly
Rear:
Toyota V6 8''- Pickup, 4runner,FJ Criuser

So these are just a straight up swap with no set-up?

Also, My rig is a DD so I like the idea of the e-locker to maintain some of that streetablity. Your thoughts?

Yeah, just swap em in. The gears are already set up from eastcoast so it's just a bolt-on deal. The front diff is a lot harder to R&R than the rear so even if you pay a shop to do the swap, you'll still come out probably just as good or better $$ wise, but the set-up will be perfect and that's the main worry when regearing. And you should be able to save $$ by putting the rear in yourself with basic tools and a little mechanical skill.

I wanted locker selectablility too (cuz mine is also a DD) so I went with an ARB. I'm almost positive eastcoast can do e-lockers too, but you'll just have to do the wiring for the actuator motor/switch or pay a shop. You may have to call them about that request though. They can do ARBs too, but of coures you'll need to worry about the compressor install and running the air lines..

Yeah like the one on ebay. Mine is geared to 4.88 too. To fit the elocker into your axle housing you just have to grind part of it away. Heres a good writeup. 4Runners.org - 3rd Gen 4Runner E-locker Retrofit

Do not use he elocker gasket. I did and it leaked. Had to go back in and take the gasket off and re-seal it up with some grey RTV.

I like e-lockers just fine and would never take one out just to replace it with an ARB, but since you have your choice, the ARB's carrier and overall design is stronger and e-lockers tend to stick if they aren't used a lot. Plus you can use the ARB's compressor to fill up tires, rafts, air beds, etc..

If you're dead set on an e-locker, here's another good install write-up:
