I agree that many good men & women give their life for our freedom every day & that it should not go unnoticed & I have extreme respect for them!
In response to children. I looked it up probably before you even woke up today because I am a fan of his and the last I saw was that it was a hoax. There was no disrespect to him, his family or any one else…i have more class than that.

I just read the news on MSN. Very tragic.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dio at an in-store meet-and-greet back in '96. I worked at the CD store so us employees had the chance to BS with him and his band before we opened the door. He was a genuinely nice person with a personality that could light up a room. He will definitely be missed.

Agreed, Ric. I felt the same way when NONE of the major networks reported the story of the Coast Guard C-130 that crashed last October off the coast of San Diego.

News is news and when somebody has 40+ years of musical contributions to the world why shouldn't this be reported and millions of people know of him so it is news worthy so lets not mess this thread up discussing politics or the realities of war and the world. I remember our soldiers on a daily basis it doesn't mean we can't honor other people for their contributions to the world and it's not like the news channels were stopping coverage for Dio's passing like they did with Anna Nicole Smith's death.

I guess unless it's news about war we shouldn't report on anything else in the world. At least it's not some rubbish about Jon and Kate or some other lesser celebrity garbage but when you feel you know certain celebrities from their actual talented contributions to the world and that said person has been around for most of their lives and their fans listen to their music and go see them in concert you feel a certain connection thus this is news.
If news was just about war then it would just turn this country into a bunch of bitter depressed people. I personally pay attention to all the news but I don't think reporting on other news is disrespectful to our soldiers.

I really became a Dio fan after seeing "Rainbow In The Dark" on MTV when I was eighteen (!) years old. I was amazed at the sound that little guy could make!
Once I bought "Holy Diver" on LP and then later found "The Last In Line" at the local record store, I also began to appreciate his older stuff (Rainbow, Black Sabbath). I had heard those groups on the radio, but never knew much about Ronnie James Dio, what he looked like, etc., etc.
He will be missed, but his music will live on and on. I suppose he'll be getting airplay twenty or even thirty years from now.

People care but most of us can't put the war as a constant in our lives and it's a "war" (Iraq) most of americans don't agree with since they aren't really fighting for the good of America and are simply in a big mess. I feel for our soldiers over there dying for a muddled up cause.
I thought the war was over when Bush declared "mission accomplished" way back when.
It's been 8 years and it's just dragging along and Iraq isn't a threat to our way of life so people have tended to ignore it. Remember it was Saudis that attacked on 9/11 and our government considers that country non-hostile and our "friends". :ybrick:I hope we can focus more on Afghanistan since that's where our problems are.
Ric,why don't you start a thread just for recognizing our soldiers and news about our soldiers so we don't have to take these threads off topic. I know I'll read the thread and hopefully others will.
