I saw you have the Sony receiver in dash. If you don't mind, I have some questions because I was looking at getting something similar. I have an Android phone so wanted something compatible. And I have never installed an after-market unit so I really have no knowledge in this area.
1) My main reason for wanting to switch is because I listen to a lot of lectures and stuff while I drive so I wanted the functionality of being able to play YouTube videos. Will I be able to play a YouTube video while driving or parked?
2) I have three controls on the steering wheel, will they retain functionality? Volume up/down, channel up/down, and mode buttons.
3) To be able to send and receive texts/phone calls, does the phone have to be plugged in or does it use bluetooth for that?
4) Is the system laggy or slow when using touch interface to make selections?
5) How good is the phone call quality? It requires the microphone attachment I'm assuming, right?
6) Do you have a backup camera attached, if so, does it interrupt startup screen to display rear footage?
7) Does it stay on in sleep mode while car is off or does it actually power off?
Any input helps, thank you!

Some of these I dont have answers for. I bought it to use with Apple carplay. It has android auto but I have never used it.
1. Apple carplay doesn't play any video through the screen at all. I think android auto is the same but I have no experience there to answer.
2. I had to buy a module to get steering wheel functionality. I bought from crutchfield and they sent me everything needed to retain steering wheel controls for an extra $40 with the radio.
3. Apple carplay allows for that, it is all done with voice commands. Ive never connected my phone via bluetooth. Ive only used carplay and it requires a usb connection.
4. Sometimes it lags a little in carplay mode. I think its speed is dependent on the phone. I use it with a iphone 5s.
5. The microphone comes with the radio. Phone calls are as clear as I would expect.
6. No back up camera.
7. Radio shuts off with car.

This is perfect, thank you very much. I think I'm going to be getting one of these units and using with my Android phone. I believe there is a workaround that will allow me to play video on the unit. I'll also get a backup camera to attach and a dash cam to plug into second camera input. I believe the 200 series has the additional inputs.

Did a plug change first time since owning the vehicle. Old plugs were Denso so looks like previous owner was sticking to OEM.
Here's a pic of 4 on driver's side. Also, made a purposely and intended super corny video for a friend showing how to access them. Maybe it would benefit someone Googling this in future.

It's the A/C evap hose
Does anyone know what this hose is?
I usually see it dripping something, probably water, after I shut the vehicle off and it's sitting. I'm guessing it's AC related.

A lot has been done since my last post so I thought it's a good time for an update. I finally got some time from my other build so I'm able to start giving this build some time and $$$ and make it the way I want it.
First thing I did was change out the OEM key and keyfob with this one that I bought from eBay. It has the same distance/reach as the OEM one, works great, and in my opinion looks a lot better. The trunk button doesn't open the rear hatch obviously but it does slide the back window down like the OEM keyfob.

Once you get the new keyfob, all you have to do is program it yourself using your original master key. Unfortunately for me, during this process I realized I never had a master key. So I had to find a local locksmith to program one for me along with my new keyfob. All is good.

Then I decided it's time to get a fridge. I opted for the ARB unit but got the Series II since it has a more subtle color scheme and I like that you can control/monitor it from the mobile app. I also got the protective cover for it as well, not shown here.

That complemented the basic coleman stove I already had.

I also needed a place to sleep so I went back and forth deciding between a ground tent vs a rooftop tent. I figured for now, I'll get a ground tent until I invest in the roof rack and other stuff to make things proper. I got the Gazelle T4 Hub and I must say it's a really nice spacious tent, despite being a little heavy to haul around. Very quick to set up and so far have been pleased with it and its $250 price tag.

I thought about how I wanted to power everything as time passes by and I add more stuff to the build. Initially I was thinking about the dual battery setup but I opted for the external portable battery instead and picked up an Inergy Apex.

Eventually, I'll mount this on the inside and I'll run the ARB, drone batteries, camera batteries, laptop, blender, etc from it. Along with it, I plan to get 1 or 2 solar panels that I can wire in to recharge it while it's powering my devices.

I was able to pick up a nice set of Method Racing wheels NV305 in 17" x 8.5". Thanks to the gracious people of this forum, I was able to grab them at 50% off from Wheelwell during one of their frequent sales.

I was debating between these and the SCS Ray 10 in bronze but given how nearly impossible it is to get SCS wheels (I've tried 2 or 3 times), plus getting an amazing deal on these, I decided on these instead and man am I glad! I think they look amazing! And I think the bronze is a little brighter than the SCS bronze which is what I was looking for, but that's personal preference.

I think it sits just perfect now along with the 1.25" spacers I'm still running and the 275/70/17 KO2 tires with around 30k of tread wear. Of course, I was rubbing a little bit so had to trim some bumper in front of tire and liner behind tire.
Also, I had to get ET lug nuts to make the wheels fit properly. All in all, I'm really happy with this set. They finally transformed the look of the car for me along with the roofrack. Slowly but surely, it's coming together.

Got around to installing the ExtremeLED X6S single row dual color light bar.
Since the stock power wire coming out of light bar was too short + it had a bulky 3 pin connector on the end, the first thing I did was cut that power wire off. I went to hardeare store and purchased 7 feet of similar wire (wanted wire color to match the red, blue, and yellow, but much cheaper to get generic colored wiring).
I removed the black sheathing from new wire and ran the green, white, and black wires under the A-pillar weather stripping. It's definitely a tight squeeze but oh well.
Then I joined those wires to light bar power wire that I cut. I also used electrical tape and heat shrink tubing to clean it up a bit and then tucked the wire altogether.
Tip: joining the wires together in a staggered fashion instead of all at the same length side by side would reduce bulkyness when you're trying to create the most minimal footprint. As you can see here, I just joined them side by side cause it didn't really matter for me here.
Then, I did the very same thing at other end of this cable and thereby, I just increased the length of the power wire.
I plugged the end of this wire into the light bar harness, connected to my battery, and ran the third side of harness through the firewall and into the dash.
As expected, the light is pretty blinding. And I got the optional wireless remote that enables different types of strobe function. Or to just simply turn the light bar on and off from a distance.

And then, decided it's time for some steel bumpers. A couple factors I considered were cost, lead times, and look/features. Since I didn't want to wait 6-9 months to receive the bumpers, and I didn't want to spend crazy money, I decided to go with Coastal Offroad's do it yourself bumpers. I wanted to use the opportunity to learn how to weld, but I've gotten really busy recently with work expanding so I did the smart thing and asked Trailworx Fabrication to hook me up:

Since my last post, I've cleaned up the interior a little with some Weathertech floor mats front and rear. And then one of my favorite mods, a dash mat from Carhartt for the 4th gen 4runner. Texas has some brutal summers, so the last thing I want is getting my mint dash destroyed, cracked, fading, etc.

And then, decided it's time for some steel bumpers. A couple factors I considered were cost, lead times, and look/features. Since I didn't want to wait 6-9 months to receive the bumpers, and I didn't want to spend crazy money, I decided to go with Coastal Offroad's do it yourself bumpers. I wanted to use the opportunity to learn how to weld, but I've gotten really busy recently with work expanding so I did the smart thing and asked Trailworx Fabrication to hook me up:
