Racing Pistons, Cams?

A friend of mine was telling me how he runs racing pistons and cams on his 2000 Tacoma with gains of 70 hp, and the pistons and cams have a 5 year warranty( i dont recall the brand ) is this true?

Has anyone installed these? Im try to find something cheaper than a supercharger but with more kick than headers,Cold Air, and Exhaust but is also reliable.

That wont be cheaper than a SC. To do pistons (the right way), youve got to tear the whole motor down and hot tank, bore and hone the block, reassemble and reinstall the motor. Plus its a quad cam. That seems like a alot of work. I'm use to the B and K series honda motors not the 5vz so maybe someone else can give you more insight.

My vote is its not worth the $

if 70 horsepower is all you're gaining from pistons AND cams, than the cams better not mess with your idle hardly at all. If they do f**k with the idle at all, than its definitely not worth it.
Also, what specs are the pistons? are they raising your compression at all? I suspect not, since, again, 70 HP is not that big of a gain. I put high compression pistons in my B16, and it was like a small supercharger.

first... was it the 4 cyl or v6? i can see somebody doing this to a 4 but not a v6.... that would be a lot of work and money for the gain. imo the 4 would need a full build stroked, higher crompession pistons, cams, headwork and bolt ons(ihe) to make the 70 whp... the v6 would probably take some custom parts and a higher price for the build.
....a lot of honda guys chiming in haha.. i played that game from 98' - 10' , started with an n/a eg went to a turbo da and ended with an fa5 :guitar2:

It all depends on what these "racing pistons an cams" are. Is it possible? sure. You can build an engine with widely varying power characteristics, depending on what components you use, and what the desired outcome is.

There are advantages and disadvantages to any engine build.

FWIW, I doubt you will find anyone that will build a good custom engine for you, for a cheaper price than just bolting a TRD supercharger kit onto the 5VZFE.

It all depends on what the downside to them is. Almost every single engine mod has a advantage and a disadvantage. If these pistons were cheap and had no disadvantages, Toyota would have used them in the engine to begin with.
