What is a good radar detector out on the market. I do a lot of highway driving and would like to get a good detector that I can rely on.

another vote for the valentine one. i love watching the arrows point out the source of the signal. and the signal count is great too. it makes it much easier to see the traps when they put one cop out in the open and hide a second one. plus the conceled display is great too.

V1. However, unless you drive really fast all the time, i would not buy one. I had one when i had my BMW M3 and i still got 2 tickets. Cops are getting smarter and smarter these days...they know where to hide. In addition, instant-on Ka is a killer...no defense against that.

I gave the V1 to my brother...and he has it on his Jeep Wrangler Rubicon!!:p That thing can't even go faster than 65 mph without blowing it's engine! Well, he likes it.:)

True. I have one in my M3 and now my 4runner. I don't use it all that much except when I go on road trips. Just having one isn't going to stop you from getting tickets as Thai stated.

I might sell one of them.

Koz - is this another April fool's joke? :p

I think the 3rd link is owned by Passport. The 1st and 4th don't sell V1 so they're not going to let it win when they stand to lose money. The 2nd link didn't even test the V1.

Yes, it's more expensive and in this case, you get what you pay for.

There's also some false info in one of those links. POP (not POP3 like internet mail protocol) is supported on the V1 only because consumers don't understand the technology. Basically, it shoots radar at a fraction of a second to get a speed but even the POP radar manufacturers stated that it's very inaccurate.

I used to have a Passport 7500 and it wasn't very good. I had both 7500 and V1 to try out and the V1 consistently gave alerts way before the 7500. I know the 8500 is the newer, better model but V1 has also improved since.

Bobby,

No the 3rd link is not Passport.

The only advantage the V1 has is, it pick up X band a little sooner, very little. Also X band is not used too much any more.

If you look at MOST reviews the Escort 8500 X50 is top rated detector. I know it's hard to except when it costs the most but, look at all the reviews. The V1 is very good but is not worth the extra $100. Sorry just my opinion.

The Escort Solo S2 is probably the best portable/wireless on the market.

I have the original Solo and love it. I like the fact that there are no cords (there is one available) and it is so easy to take off and pop it in another car. It has never let me down.....knock, knock, knock. Once it dies I am getting the S2 or whatever is the newest version at the time. I have had this one since 1997 and not one problem.

A V1 or Escort.

All the test are bias one way or another. Read up on the detectors and think for yourself.

I own a V1.

I have not used it since buying my 4Runner. My commute is short and I don't speed anymore.

Plus all the cops use laser around here. I not going to bother with a laser jammer.

If you have deep pockets get the Valentine, if you want to save a bit of green (roughly $100 price diff) go w/ the Escort 8500 model... I have the Escort and I've been happy with it. Yeah, the arrows would be nice, but the Escort IS capable of alerting to multiple signals if you program it to display them...

Obviously the majority of yall out there says the V1, but i have had a k40 electronics for every year that i have had my car, and it is incredible in my estimation. Sure, it costs about 4 and change, but on the bright side, if you get a speeding ticket they pay for it. No shit, they do. Obviously they don't pay for the insurance hike, but the actual ticket itself its payed for.

And yes bobby the V1 is great, but i am biased

anyone know of any li-dar (sp? i have no clue) detectors, that is used primarily by police in fairfax county and normal radar detectors don't pick it up.

v1... no doubt about it. Ive picked up cops so far ahead sometimes that I will slow down, speed up again, and then slow down again when they get closer. Once you go with the arrows you wont want to go back.. haha

I have a Escort 8500 x50 work great for me! I heard a lot of good thing about the V1 too but they are in despite need of a cosmetic change. they been selling the same bulky design since it came out 10 year ago lol!
