Before I got my Solo I had the 8500 and really liked it.........until somebody kicked in my passenger windo and stole it.

Check out k40. They are the only ones that guarrantee that you will not get a ticket for a year. If you get a ticket using the K40 they will pay for the ticket. I have had mine for 3 years and works every time..

www.k40.com I think...

I have had both the k40 and v1. The v1 is a superior radar detector. Any radar detector can detect when police leave the radar on. Especially on straight aways. Even the cheap ones. Beside, the directional arrows of the v1 what seperates the v1 from the pack is its ability to pick up instant on. It is far superior to the k40 in this respect. Another area where it is better is picking up radar on hills and curves. Please take my advice I have had both and I ended up getting 2 tickets with the k40. Been with my v1 for 5 years and ticket free. And I am a demon on the roads. I mean I speed like you wouldn't believe. Don't make the same mistake I made just go with the V1 and trust me.

 I've heard great things about the V1 as well, but with only one post, you come off as affiated with Valentine one.

hahahaha. I am not affiliated with v1. I just believe in their product. I could share so many stories about how this radar detector has saved my ass. I will share my favorite story with you. Long stretch of road coming into town. One of those machine's on the side of the road that states your speed and what the speed limit is. Well the v1 went off with 1 in the bogey counter then all of a sudden it jumps up 3 radars. There was a car dealership that 2 unmarked cruiser were hiding in. There they were pretending to be cars for sale. Everybody with a regular radar detector was being busted because they coudln't pick up that there was more radar there. Of course the directional arrows allowed me to pick up where the cops were. If it wasn't for the arrows I would have never even seen them hiding in the used car lot. I have so many stories like this. Those cops are always trying to come up with new tricks to beat radar detectors. My v1 has not been beat once. I love this thing. Thank god they don't have laser detectors here. Then I would have to get a scrambler. I absolutely love to speed. This product has saved my licsence.

I am not trying to dog the k40 but when I had it, I could pick off cops for miles away on the straight aways but when it came to the twistys and the instant on, it sucked. IMO, it would be a huge mistake to get the k40.

Escort Solo S2 -- I like it a lot better than the valentine... no cords to worry about, and in my experiance, it picks up much better! (I ran both side by side for 60 days, and decided on the s2)

My V1, good though it is, sits on top of my computer hutch gathering dust. It's been there since I got my last ticket (73 in a 55 zone) from a cop who crested a hill ahead and zapped me with instant-on. The V1 went to full-scale instantly, but it was too late.

Face it, there's no defense against this. A good detector will reduce the probability of your being cited, but that's as far as it goes. Me, I've slowed down some. With gas prices where they are now and the boxcar aerodynamics of our 4Runners, that's a strategy that pays off in other ways as well.

Good luck.

I have had 2 Bel detectors. My first was a window suction cup mounted detector and my current one is the stealth remote kind (sensor under the hood and remote display in my car). I don't know if it is just Bel but both of these detectors were fine in my opinion for the first 2, maybe 3 years. But after that they false like crazy. My remote even allows you to disable the frequencies you want. I have mine set to only report K band, but it doesn't matter what frequency is in the air, it reports it as K band. Cell phones in passing cars, other radar detectors, shopping centers, bums begging for change on the street... it doesn't matter, they all set off my Bel radar detector.
I think I'm going with an Escort 8500 x50 next and see if it lasts longer.

Khaug,
Why not sell it? What would you take for it? :)
