Radiator from Manual and Auto the same?

On the way home last night, the power steering belt broke, took out the fan blades and one of them put a small hole in the radiator :/

I was wondering if the radiator from a manual is the same as in an auto and just has the trans cooler lines capped off. My buddy has his old one since he ordered a new one for his SAS swap and said I can have it if it will work.

I am not worried about the internal trans cooler since I have it bypassed with a B&M cooler but want to make sure the fit is correct. From what I have seen searching parts, they are but I figured I would double check with the experts.

Man, you just can't get a break, can you?

The bolt holes and coolant inlet/outlet ports will be the same. If you've bypassed the tranny cooler, the 5speed radiator should work for you.

When it rains it pours I guess. Owell, just gotta keep pushing through. The crazy part is that the fan itself is almost as much as a new radiator. :frusty:

I have used fan blades in good shape for way cheaper than Toyota if you need one :)

If a manual radiator doesn't have the built-in tranny cooler, is it better to swap to it once the bypass cooler is installed?
 
just for a reference here for you guys, if you go down to the dealer and buy a brand new radiator for your manual trans, it will come with the hookups for the trans cooler. they all will, toyota will only sell an auto trans, and i think that is the only way you can get one of those radiators aftermarket now as well. they do that to eliminate any confusion or miss orders between the two -auto/manual. other than the trans cooler integration there is zero difference

Diggin' up an oldie here....cracked open the box from Camelback this morning to install the new radiator and noticed immediately that it had extra connections for auto trans fluid...problem is I have a manual :) Seems they are all the same part number from Toyota as the great him pointed out. I'm going to throw it in and just leave those auto trans fittings capped. Any concerns with this or should I search for a "manual specific" radiator???

No concerns. I would get a piece of line and just run from one to the other on the trans cooler.

Or plug the two in/outlets on the trans cooler portion of the rad. I put RTV in mine and added a cheap rubber cap.
Just in case some defect or corrosion sets in way off in the future, why risk losing coolant out the open holes?

If they are connected with a piece of line no coolant can be lost in the future.

Wait - Why would there be coolant coming out the trans cooler holes? Seems to me the trans cooler circuit should be empty.

OK, pardon the necro, but this is the post I need today. :-)

Maybe I'm overthinking things, but I'm replacing the rad on my '99 which has a manual, and thinking if you could get a rad without the trans cooler circuit you should get a few degrees better cooling.

Both manual and automatic transmission radiators are available. :) There should not ever be coolant coming out the transmission cooler circuit. However, it has been issues for years with 3rd gens. The transmission cooler can fail causing what is referred to as milkshake.

Unless you’ve found something different; which in that case post a link to what you’ve found.

On Rockauto, only the OSC 2207 radiator appears to be manual transmission only as all of the rest show the transcooler connectors on them. The OSC 2207 picture appears to show some sort of plug rather than the connectors, though it's difficult to tell exactly what is going on as the image is a bit blurry.

As far as the OEM that you linked to, it is for an automatic transmission. You can see the connectors in the image, and if you change the model that it is checking against the website shows that it does fit an automatic vehicle.

Yes one only one on rock auto. I cant help that Toyota cant get you non auto one. You saw how a spec'd it out. :(

I found at least one says manual. :)

Bogus. This just isnt good. I have a email to my buddy who works at the Toyota parts department. It's a shame if they discontinued the radiators without coolers. I get verification from him in a few days.
