Radio Frequency "Easter Egg Hunt"

Hi all,

My father has told me stories about when he was younger, riding around in his Bronco probably late 70s, where he and his friends would get up on Saturdays with some type of radio receiver that would beep more frequently the closer they got to a signal. The signal was located at a point that was usually found within 3-4 hours. The people at the signal would have a BBQ and a keg waiting for when the others got there. He said he thinks this was put on by guys older than him that were radio operators in Vietnam.

Does anybody know if this kind of thing still happens or if you can find equipment for this or if it may have been custom equipment or using?

This "scavenger hunt" sounds really fun and I'd like to get involved with something like this.

Ha! I'm familiar with Geocaching but the way I understand it is that this is a 5-10 mile, mostly on road, search for the rally point.

Amateur Radio Operators call it Foxhunting.
It's radio directing finding, same principle the Lo-Jack vehicle theft system uses.

Your best bet might be to search Facebook for groups in your area that do this kind of thing.

True, you wouldn't need a ham radio, a basic police/fire type scanner would do for listening.

Or just do it on CB.
