Radio Install Help! and I did search>

OK, here's the story. I have a 03 4runner SR5 with stock radio #16850. CD/Cas player - Not JBL. I found a Toyota NAV E7006 head unit. I took out the OHU and tried to install the NAV HU. None of the plugs match up of course. I searched on here and found that it looks like I need an amp and different wiring harness. I looks like the E7006 came out of a Sienna.

My question are...
1. will this radio work in my 4runner SR5?
2. Do I need an ECU or is it built in to this radio?
3. and for sure Do I need the amp for the speakers?
4. Do I need to splice into the existing wiring to rewire or is there a harness somewhere?

Thanks for your input. I've been searching for 2 days now and can not find a definitive answer.

I don't know the model numbers off the top of my head. But there are two different navi units, an analog (aka Camry nav) and a digital (aka Solara nav) output. For 4Runners without the JBL system, you will need the analog navi unit which comes from the 2004-06 Camry for the all in one units. For 4Runners that have the JBL system, those need the digital version.

Check out OEMvalue and SiennaClub. A handful of SiennaClub members have done the swap including from non-JBL stock headunit to the digital JBL nav.

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you already pay for the NAV unit? You mayb be looking at spending in the price range of an aftermarket in-dash nav.

The Pioneer Avic D3 would be a good starting point if you were looking to ditch the toyota nav

getting a D3 would allow you to play DVD's, burned CD's, MP3 cd's, much easier install, and a better sound quality, as well as an easy ipod, satellite radio, aux in, etc.

Well...I gave up on it and took it back to the Pawn shop and got my $400 back. I just did not feel like buying an amp and rewiring everything. You are right, for the money I could get something else.

Im sure you could easily find out PLENTY of info on them around here.
