radio not lighting up in my 94

ok from the day i got this truck the screen on the cd/tape/radio unit has not lit up . It did once when i was pulling out of drive. but it never staied on. it has the anti theft on the casset door I'm not sure how or what to do to shut that down so as to not lock up radio.

the areial (can't spell) has been removed from the truck at this point Previous owner replaced fenders and looks like he just cut areial cord and never put it all back . I will be installing a short rubber whip .

so if anyone can help me figure out why the screen doesn't light up that would be great

If its not a factory radio then youll need to find a forum for that radio brand.
i would assume that the lights are powered by internal circuit boards so if its getting power and playing then it might be a internal issue and not fixable or at least not worth the time to fix it as new cd players are only like 50$ or 100$ for a good one.

The 51706 radio unlock code is as follows: 328448
if that doesnt work just but a aftermarket radio and never deal with the issue again, or go to the dealer and have them unlock the radio.
if it still plays music but doesnt light up then the internals are bad and youll need to replace the radio.

the antenna or aerial will have nothing to do with your issue.

FWIW my 3rd gen radio CD/Cass stopped lighting up. A thorough search revealed what poster above said: can't be fixed except by a radio tech. I got a factory unit off eBay for $25. Surprise! The CD quit working after a month! I just got a new Kenwood unit from Crutchfield for $130 including shipping and Toyota harness and dash pocket. It was really easy to install. Soldering the harness took me an hour but you can get quick connects and the actual installtion in the dash took about 45 minutes. I was surprised how good the factory speakers sound. The added plus is that I can play my iPhone through it.
