Radio static with HIDs…

Last weekend I installed a set of 6000K HID low beams. All week, whenever I turn on the radio, with the lights, on it goes to static. Today we tried installing the included relay kit and still no luck. Now I know the first answer I'm going to get is "listen to CDs instead" so hahaha let's get past that. Anyone else have a similar problem or any ideas of a fix? :redbrick:

Dont have that problem with my hid's. Did you try going back to the oem setup to I.D. that it truly is the hids being the problem?

It had never done it before the HIDs went in. And if the parking lights are on it's fine, but once the headlights go on it's straight static.

Did you ground the hids to the frame?

You may need to add a RF choke to the power wires. It does sound like a wiring or grounding issue. Most inverters need a choke.

they're grounded to the sheet metal inside the engine bay. Think it's not a strong enough ground?

Did you screw/bolt anything down? Try to use one of the factory ground or the battery ground.

I used the screw for the ballasts against the sheet metal in the engine bay. It has to be a decent ground b/c the battery has a ground connected there. I bought two sets of RF chokes Snap Choke Core - RadioShack.com on various power and ground wires coming from both the relay harness and off the ballasts.

I had the same problem on my friends truck. Its deffently a grounding problem. Find somewhere better to get a ground

Alright thanks. I'll try that in the morning. Do you think sanding some paint off the sheet metal would help, or do I just need a more solid ground?

U can try to scratch the paint like u was saying but I'm about 99% sire you need a better ground

its normal to get some slight static when listening to am. but if its on fm side, i would replace the ballast.

Where are you mounting the ballasts? If its not the ground, I've heard sometimes if you mount a ballast near the antenna mount, you may get some static. I don't listen to the radio ever, so I don't know lol.
