Radio wierdness solved

I have a 2012 TE with the Entune System. I also have a Nokia Lumia 928. Every since I had the vehicle, the Entune system would switch to BTSA 15-60 seconds after I started the vehicle - most of the time.

I went in today for my 20k service and floor mat check. I noted the problem to the service advisor and asked them if there was a new software update for the radio. Of course, the service advisor comes back and says that the tech said it was normal. I politely said I don't understand why, and asked the service advisor to speak with whoever is the authority on these matters. About 20 minutes later, I am told that there was in fact an update, and that it was installed. So far, I am not experiencing any more unrequested switches to BTSA.

FYI, the radio now says that it has Software Version 3.2.0

My Entune NAV won't let me input an address. The option is greyed out. I hope an update might fix this too??

It does that when it thinks the car is travelling > 5mph.

If it is doing it when stopped, then that'll be a visit to the shop to fix.

It's still on my TODO list to make a little circuit to fake the navi in to thinking the car is going 4mph all the time so that a passenger at least can enter a damn address while we are travelling :/

I have a 2014 with entune nav and occasionally while driving the unit will reboot. I wonder why nav will not access the phone directory when doing an address search.

Yeah, I get this a LOT. I think it even got worse after an upgrade. It'll freeze and reboot periodically. Also, if I try to switch from my phone to my iPod, it will freeze. If I pause my phone while on BT for a bit, then unpause, I'll have to restart before I get any sound. I'm trying to search now, so please don't kill me, but have other people seen this? It just about makes me want to go aftermarket ...

This infotainment crap is annoying... Toyota and Entune have a piss poor system for determining which update goes to which vehicle.

We have like 4-5 Different radio manufacturers that make our head units (Fujistu-Tein, Harmen, Panasonic, Denso, ect), of which there are like half a dozen variations per model, then there's shit like Extension Boxes (which are different per manufacturer) that may contain BlueTooth modules and Navigation, or its just a Hard Drive (again, depends on the manufacturer because they all make them different!) so trying to diagnose customer complaints is quite honestly a royal ***** (we had a brand new 2014 Camry where Toyota's System would't even recognize the part number on )the Fujistu-Tein Radio installed on the vehicle, it kept saying it was a Harmen with a different part number when we had the damn thing in our hands!

How pray tell does Toyota present all this information for us? With a very detailed chart showing diagrams of the radio ID Numbers (the little number on the front of the radio), part numbers, lists of vehicles each type of vehicle uses, or even just a simple picture chart? NOPE... It just says "here's who makes them, HDD or Non-HDD, Premium Audio or Non-Premium Audio, ect... oh and by the way there's some vague way to tell the difference between them I guess?"

Nothing is more frustrating than spending more than what should take 5 minutes to ID what radio a customer has so I know WHICH DAMN USB TO PLUG IN, so I can update the head unit... Its absolutely stupid and frustrating and poorly done by Toyota and EnTune. Bottom line, the manufacturers are starting to keep their "factory trained technicians" almost as in the dark as the customers are when it comes to their vehicles... yet we're expected to fix them?

I know what you mean. I called the Entune customer service line the other day and was basically told I didn't know what HU I have in my new truck. I felt dumber after having talked to them. Poor experience overall.

I think the Entune is promising and works fairly well for me but the customer service is definitely lacking.

This was annoying me too bro. Once I figured out how to do it via voice though its 1000 times better than ever directly entering the address by hand in any nav system i have had.

Just push the voice button on the steering wheel and when prompted say "get directions". She'll guide you through the rest. This is how i do it now even when the vehicle is stopped.

Holy crap! I never even tried that! :D I keep forgetting about the voice commands completely. Will have to try that out more, thanks :)
