I gotta say, I feel a bit dumb that I didn't think of this question earlier... before I bought a really nice Hi-lift. I have a regular floor jack for garage lifting, but it doesn't go THAT high. Probably still enough for a tire change.
IF the ground is level, conditions are perfect, etc., is the tow hitch a sufficiently strong point to lift from? What is max tongue weight, 500 lbs? ...not that max tongue weight directly equates to supporting weight.
a hi lift is not the best tool for routine maintenance or shop work.
when you lift from the frame/body, you have to lift until the suspension drops free before the tires come off. sometimes that can be way high. especially in the rear. not ideal but not impossible.
